PHONES

I want a cool phone!
I will take phone advice from people who have it. My current carrier is Sprint.

Things I want my phone to do:
--have a Twitter app
--let me take pictures & post them with Instagram
--let me use Google maps to travel the bus around this city (my free parking spot at work is going away next month, *sob*)
--a place to write notes, so that I always know which volumes of manga I have/need, EVEN IF I FORGET THE NOTE CARDS AT HOME!
--call people
--text people
--allow me to utilize the Crunchyroll app to watch anime

(I don't give a shit about reading e-books on the phone; I have an e-reader for that, which I like.)

MY ASSUMPTION: Any smart phone will do all of these things, and it really doesn't fucking matter which one I pick. Is this true?
I'm assuming my choice is Droid vs. iPhone. Isn't Droid the one that had those weird, sexist ads when it came out?

I received a Kobo Touch e-reader! It's pretty great.

My mission is to get really comfortable with it & upload lots of content on to it before I have surgery on January 18th. After my surgery, I won't be able to lift things that weigh more than 2 lbs, or bend over. Reading will be easier on this small/cute device, and possible wherever - a coffee shop, bedridden, the bus, etc.

Things I can do:
--Download fanfiction from the Archive of Our Own (easy b/c they have a button!), put it in Calibre, get it on my e-reader
--Buy books through Kobo's weird website/management system
--Make huge fanfics into .epub or .mobi files by using squee!Book....sort of (see below).

Things I'd like to do: (advice welcome)
--be able to add a cover image to fics I download from the AO3. I have....a lot of fanart saved to my hard drive, haha.
--Get rid of the ads that play when it's in sleep mode. Find out if I can hack it and put my own pictures on there instead.
--Play with squee!Book more. At the moment - I can't embed images inside a chapter. I've tried making an e-book for Lullabye for the New World Order twice now. The first time, I hadn't yet figured out how to insert an image into the title. The second time, it worked! But the text file of the fic itself was totally, utterly borked. Like, there was a single paragraph.....various chapter title pages, but no fic. V. disappointing, and I'm not sure what I did wrong.
--I'm semi-dreading using squee!Book for some of the really old FF7 fic I used to read and would like to reread to see how it holds up....some was posted on sites built using frames. Since the Word Processor on my computer crashes every time I copy/paste text into it, this could prove to be very frustrating.
--Check out library e-books on it (I'm told this is totes possible??).
--Buy a book through Room of One's Own's website for it.
--attempt to read manga on it, and see what happens

Yesterday, I was a consumer-whore, and I'm okay with it.

Firstly, in the realm of cheap things, I purchased a flower vase, cheese grater, and plant shelf at St. Vincent DePaul, which were obviously cheap.

I also used a Barnes & Noble gift card that I had received for my birthday to get two xxxHolic manga.

The largest purchase, of course, was my iPod.

I ended up getting an iPod Classic. I figured that if I was going to spend $200 on a 16 GB iPod Nano, I might as well spend $50 more, and get a bigger screen and 120 GB. By the way, my laptop has about 38 GB (I am still using the same laptop I purchased the summer before going to college), so my iPod has 3 times the amount of space as my laptop!

I think that this is the most amount of money I've spent in a store at once (obviously, I spend more on rent, car insurance, etc.).

I struggled a bit with what to name the iPod. My laptop is Watanuki, being basically a house servant. My Internet connection is Himawari, so that every time my laptop (Watanuki) connects to the Internet, it says, "You are connected to Himawari." BECAUSE I AM A SAP.

So at first, I was going to name the iPod Doumeki. But then Antoine pointed out that my iPod is small and black, so I named it Black Mokona instead. [I am waiting for something super badass to name "Yuuko."]

So far, for free, I have downloaded:
Episode 1 of Honey & Clover
A preview special for Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Episode 1 of Naruto: Shippuden

I am a fan of free stuff! Unfortunately, anime seems to be only available via iTunes in English dub, so that is pretty annoying. In the Honey & Clover English dub, all of the voice actors refer to each other by their first name, and it is skeeving me out. Like, "Shinobo." Yuuta Takemoto should not be calling him Shinobu, he should be calling him "Morita-sempai."

I am working on investigating podcasts next, in addition to putting my own music on it. I don't think I've ever listened to podcasts before, aside from Ron Moore's pretentious Battlestar Galactica ones.
