laceblade: G Washington, A Hamilton, & T Jefferson; lol!text about political party formation (LOL politics)
Back in May, I made some election predictions.

I thought that Scott Walker would win the recall election; he did.

I thought that the Democrats would take the State Senate in June, only to lose it in November; they did.

I thought Obama would win re-election; he did.

I didn't make a prediction about the Tammy Baldwin/Tommy Thompson race in this blog, but I commented on it frequently on Twitter - I thought that Baldwin would lose to Thompson.
She has done jack-shit as a legislator, and is extremely liberal.
Because I thought that she would lose, I was pleased when Tommy Thompson defeated the Club for Growth-backed GOP candidate in the primary.

But then Thompson was a complete jackhole in every debate, and Tammy pulled it out it in the end! Glad to have been wrong about Tammy Baldwin.
She is the US's first openly gay senator. Also Wisconsin's first woman senator.
I'm also glad to have voted for her successor in the House: Mark Pocan. This is the first time that a gay legislator has succeeded another gay legislator for the same seat. WISCONSIN DISTRICT 2 REPRESENT!

Glad to see that Nate Silver and Wisconsin's Marquette Law Poll (run by one of my fave former profs) were right. Really hoping for political science to become more mainstream, instead of people like Peggy Noonan and George Will blowing hot air all over the place. They make for better TV, but people seriously freak out waiting for election results. NEEDS TO STOP.

This was Wisconsin's sixth election of the year. People in Ohio/etc. complaining about ads can suck it. I am very, very ready for advertisements to be done. (But you can bet your ass I will still tweet incessantly about politics.)

I know one of the tags says "locked;" it's not supposed to, it's okay this post is unlocked.

PLAYLISTS ARE MY THING LATELY, HAVE YOU NOTICED?

Anyway, started a playlist of songs for US/UK politics; you can find it here if you have Spotify. I think that all of the UK ones come from a fanmix for Attack the Block that I downloaded a while ago - will link to that when I'm home & have the bookmark.

Do you have any song recs? As evidenced by the list, I'm into pop music, so recs along those lines = nice. Recs need not be centered on US/UK politics; that's just what I've got so far.

There's a War Going On For Your Mind - Flobots
Council Estate of Mind - Skinnyman
Golden Sand - The Republic Tigers
Wretches and Kings - Linkin Park
My England - Lady Sovereign
Take a Walk - Passion Pit
If There Ever Was a Time - Third Eye Blind
Hands Held High - Linkin Park
POWER - Kanye West
Wisdom, Justice, and Love - Linkin Park
We Are Winning - Flobots

I might add to this list myself later, because I forgot my iPod at home today. I need music to function at work, so the Spotify app is currently creating a playlist centered on Flobots's "There's a War Going On For Your Mind." Its first add is "We are all on drugs" by Weezer, lol.

WARNING THAT THE GLEE COVER OF "SCREAM" MIGHT BE MY FIRST ADD, JSYK.

I found this on [personal profile] littlebutfierce's blog; it was originally done over at [personal profile] dingsi's. I'm posting a permanent wishlist. These two rules are from [personal profile] dingsi

1. It is okay to want nice things. Post your wishlist! You don't have to be/do something special to "deserve" one! Just accept that sometimes people want to give you nice things! Because it makes them feel good, and/or they think you are rocksauce, or: because!

2. It is okay to not give someone what they want. People can be broke, out of energy, too busy, or simply go "eh, I'm not feeling particularly close to this person" and shrug and scroll past. Doesn't make them bad.

If you have a similar list, you could link to it in the comments? :O

Stuff I Could Always Appreciate
♥ Graph paper booklets. I love to write on graph paper - actual fic, original stuff (haven't done that in years, heh), outlines of either, sketches, etc. Given the choice, I like eighth-of-an-inch best. I like to keep a booklet stashed in my purse, so something smallish is optimal.
Examples! )

♥ Smaller post-its or pads of paper that are adorable.
Examples! )

♥ iTunes gift cards - I have a habit of buying Glee covers I like, and playing them constantly to keep me sane, keep me writing. I do occasionally buy other music on iTunes, too! (But I also really like buying physical CDs, still, partly b/c I can buy them at the local music store.)

♥ Recipes that adhere to my restricted diet. (Please no hard feelings if I can't try your recipe for some reason, & no guilt on your part if the recipe makes me ill!)
List of things I can't have )

♥ Fanmix recommendations. I listen to music at work almost constantly because I can't concentrate without it. On tough and/or boring days, it helps me get through, too.
I seem to be really, really drawn to Game of Thrones fanmixes, but I'll try them in just about any fandom.

♥ FF7 & Sailor Moon fanfic recs, especially of the epic length. AUs are cool.

♥ Dreamwidth points (to be spent on additional icon slots!)

One-and-Done Stuff
♥ Download links for subtitled/scanlations anime of Ai Yazawa's Gokinjo Monogatari, anime or manga version. I have the first 14 episodes, but then my source went away due to the shutdowns on Megaupload. This is one of those series that isn't available in the U.S.! I <3 the characters, though, and I want to know what happens :/

Limited Edition of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children on DVD. Please note the Limited Edition! (I already have the normal one.) FF7 is the fandom of my heart, my "first fandom" in many senses of the word. This director's cut has the plot make way more sense by adding 30 more minutes of plot (OMG it needed it). There's also a retrospective of the video game, which would allow me to curl up & relive it without having to take 60 hours to replay it each time.
It also includes the Last Order OVA, which hasn't been released in the US in any other format. (It's basically an animation of the Nibelheim flashback, so it's mostly awesome.)

A DVD of the Ghibli movie "Castle in the Sky," preferably this version.

a copy of Persona 4 for the PS2

This FF7-inspired linked pendant. Combo colors of green & blue, please. (Most of the color combos available there don't make sense! Obviously you would want a magic materia linked with a support materia.) ty [personal profile] littlebutfierce :*)

♥ a DVD of the Kamikaze Girls movie

♥ I maintain a list of favorite items on Etsy.

I will keep this list up to date! I'll remove things when I get them or decide I don't need them; I'll add things when I think of them. There will be a link to this post from the sticky post.
