Holy crap, I want a rabies quilt like the one sewn by Phyllis in tonight's episode of The Office. A comfortable, colorful quilt with a different rabid animal in each square. I should learn how to sew, and then I could make myself such wonderful things. So, take note, Blog Reader. If you intend to gift me at Christmas, you can add "rabies quilt" to your list.

I feel like I'm in a wonderful mood right now, even though I didn't do much tonight.
Tomorrow morning, I need to pack for my weekend home, including laundry that I'm going to do there. Then I'll drive home, visit a couple of teachers I intend to meet, and go to the post office and mail some BookMooch books. And I actually have quite a bit of work to do in terms of homework, including writing a paper for Tuesday. I'm also going to be waking up in 6 hours so that I can shower and leave for home early.

And yet, I feel peaceful. I vacuumed my carpet for the first time in ages, my room smells good because I lit some candles earlier, I ate dinner with Antoine and Chad at a new nearby restaurant and it was delicious, I'm rereading Pride and Prejudice for class and loving it even more the second time through, and I'm getting so excited for Geek.Kon.

Due to work, school, and events that occurred on Sundays when the planning meetings happened, I wasn't always able to go to plan things, but I'll still be there Saturday and Sunday, all day. I like helping those in charge when shit is hitting the fan. It'll be like stage managing used to be, back in high school! I'm really excited to see some of our guests, like Joan D. Vinge, Chad Vader, and Patrick Rothfuss. If any of you are intending to go to Geek.Kon, I would highly recommend getting there early so you can get in.

Firstly, The New York Times has finally written about the Jena 6. (If you don't have an account with the New York Times, you can get one for free with a .edu email address) If you have not been informed about the Jena 6 case, you definitely should read about it. It's hard to believe that stuff like this still happens. Racism sucks. :(

I would apologize for not blogging for a few days, but I actually posted a Friends-locked post on my LJ between this post and my last public post. Too bad you blog-readers can't read it! You should all get LiveJournals, and then you can see the entries where the real shit goes down, :) Really, though I don't like to get too detailed about work or school in public places on the interwebs.

I gave a presentation today in a class! Hopefully it didn't suck. It was the first major assignment that I've had due so far. I'm going home to see my family next weekend, and for this I am excited. It's been a while since I've actually been home - there was the Family Reunion, but that was a bit south of home, and my family came here to Madison to visit me one weekend, but I think that I haven't actually been home since July? Wow, has it really been that long? Needless to say, I'm excited. I might even be able to ask off of work and go home Thursday night....although it would be a complete and utter betrayal not to stay and watch the season premiere of The Office first.

The season premiere of Avatar: The Last Airbender is tomorrow, and I'm pretty excited. Oooh! Maybe when I'm home next week, I can watch it with Dylan! (6-year-old nephew) When did I become such a TV-consumer? I'm excited for Avatar, Heroes, The Office, Grey's Anatomy, and I would be for Battlestar Galactica if it was coming back before JANUARY. I also kind of want to check out The Bionic Woman (Katee Sackhoff is in it!) and Private Practice, the Grey's Anatomy spin-off.

Anyway. Time for bed.

Life is so weird sometimes. I've decided to take the extra time given to me by my sci-fi professor and hand it in by Tuesday at 9am. My other finals just made it impossible to write this thing well by Friday, although I do have a pretty good idea what I'm going to say.

It's finally hitting me that I have time. My room is now free of clutter. I'll be actually cleaning it and moving my bookshelves to create a reading corner for myself before my birthday/Chad's graduation party on Sunday. I will have time to read books for pleasure, to catch up on Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, Lovely Complex, Romeo x Juliet, Darker than Black, and everything else and its mom. I will finally have time to watch the Battlestar Galactica season finale! Yes, I still haven't done that yet.

Yesterday I worked, and after that I bought groceries with Chad. Then, we watched The Office season finale with Steph and Gordon, which, let me say, was AMAZING. RYAN FTW. PAM. JIM. It was the perfect season finale! As my friend Dave said, we thought there was going to be a huge cliffhanger, but there wasn't! I don't know how they manage to make the show so fresh and good every week, but they do. Best show airing on TV right now.

Antoine's parents are here for an extended weekend, for Antoine's graduation ceremony (he's already been working at Epic for a month and a half, but is receiving his master's degree). We met them and got ice cream at Memorial Union, and then sat outside on the Terrace, and then inside the Rathskellar.

Somehow, still, I feel whiny, weird, and sad. I'm hoping it will pass once I finish this paper, start my internship, and am done with school. Looking back, this seems to have every time a birthday rolls around. Maybe because I feel like I have nothing to show for a year's worth of living, that I have done nothing worthy of note. Life is weird sometimes.

The Programming Schedule for WisCon 31 has been released. I have a list of some things I intend to go to....I'll post in more detail later.

And lastly, my fear of walking on sidewalk grilles is not unfounded after all!

I feel pretty tired, even though I didn't do much today. Well, that's not true. I did things; I just didn't do homework. Or put away my clean laundry. Or clean my room. But I watched Hamlet, bought clothing that was on sale at ShopKo, bought groceries, caught up on TV shows, cooked things, and read some Shakespeare. Which I guess is a full day.

I keep looking at the SCA website, and then convincing myself that it's definitely something I don't have time to get involved in, at least not now. Maybe summer. MAYBE. *is resistant to own desires*

I don't have much else to say, and I watched lots of TV today, so I'll talk about that.

Tonight's Battlestar was meh. I really hate when the show has to do filler episodes, and I'm glad that next season, we'll be getting 1 movie and then just 13 episodes. Things will work out a lot better, I think. I liked this episode more than I usually like filler episodes - probably 'cause we haven't seen a whole lot of actual characterization in Helo. This episode fell together way too perfectly at the end, and the not-believing-others didn't really make much sense. But I guess that's what happens with filler episodes. Like Black Market (Oh God! *shudders*).

I was sort of disappointed with The Office (Phyllis' Wedding). Everyone had hyped it up, and then it was kind of meh. There were great moments, such as Ryan swatting the thrown bouquet away from Kelly, Pam realizing Phyllis stole everything from her own wedding plans, and Jim waving his cell phone at his girlfriend's mock-concert. But other than that....

Grey's was surprisingly good, but probably mostly because I think Shonda Rhimes actually wrote this episode. I liked the opening scene, and how Derek is Meredith's "knight in shining.....whatever." I thought the little girl was lame, although it'll be cool if she turns out to be Izzie's daughter (doubtful.....she's a heavy-handed metaphor in case we missed the fact that Meredith is LOST and MOTHERLESS). Speaking of Meredith - I really loved the episode from the episode in which her mother was lucid for a day and she flipped out at her at the end. Usually, I can't really stand the character's constant whining and etc., but in that moment the pain was real.
Favorite character is still Izzie, although she didn't get to do much in this episode (except tell George to move back in! Aww!). I did love her line at the beginning, though. "Hey. I ate everything in the fridge last night. Everything. Including the tub of butter. There's no judgment here."

I feel pretty amazing right now. This week has been pretty crazy in terms of changes, but I think it's all for the better. Firstly, I'll start with myself - I got the job that I interviewed for on Friday. I'm now a member of the Senate messenger staff. It's kind of an everything-job - they respond to needs of the Senate and their staffs, so I'll be staffing committee meetings and debates on the floor. Additionally, members of the staff get paid an hourly wage for their work. I'm pretty elated about it, although that's probably about all that I'll write about in a public blog on the Internet. Anyone could be reading, and etc. I don't even know why I was so hell-bent on getting it. I haven't a job for any of the previous 5 semesters that I've been in college. I guess that once I fix my mind on attaining some sort of status, I don't feel satisfied until I get there. So now, 3 days a week, I'll be working at the state Capitol! Chad laughed at me because 2 days of the week, I have to be there at 8:00am. I think it's worth it. Unlike class, which I don't get paid to get up early for, there will now be monetary incentives, :)

What else changed? Antoine has quit grad school due to being unsatisfied. According to him, he should be getting a Master's Degree in May. Right now he's busy applying for jobs, so it's a bit of a transition period.
Chad got accepted to one of the law schools he applied to and received a scholarship, so though he doesn't know where he's going yet, he'll be going somewhere. I was pissed at him because his good news kind of outshone mine, hehe.

What else? Last night, there was a huge multi-player game of Civilizations IV: Warlords on Chad's computer, with Antoine, Chad, Louise, her boyfriend Patrick, and me all playing. It was pretty awesome. Now it's Saturday and I'm getting ready to spend the evening at Anime Club, and after that either going to a party or coming back here for some more Civ. Gretchen and I are watching the Mel Gibson version of Hamlet tomorrow morning, and then I'll have the rest of the day to work on my homework (reading! Lots!).
I'm a bit apprehensive for Anime Club because some marketing research grad students contacted me via email and want to meet with me an hour before Club to "learn more about anime." They didn't explain why they needed to, so I'm not quite sure what to expect. Luckily, friends of mine will be there with me anyway, so if they're kind of weird, I won't die.

Wahhhh, I haven't had time yet to catch up on The Office or Grey's Anatomy (although Grey's was streaming on a computer at the Cardinal office this week, so I watched the first/last 5 minutes and know what happens.....to Meredith anyway, :O)! Hopefully I can do that tomorrow because I'm dying to see Phyllis' wedding and the bombing Grey's. Grey's has been growing more disappointing with time - I like *watching* the characters most of the time, but it seems like the only one I feel particularly attached to is Izzie. I was upset with the marriage storylines, but it's TV, so I shouldn't care too much.

Oh! And my first book came through BookMooch, so that's cool (except I don't have any time to read it). No one seems to be biting at the rest of my inventory, though. I hope someone does eventually. I need to get rid of lots of books!
