Gakuen Alice: Vols 1 & 2

OMF!
The pigtailed protagonist is an idiot. Like, the manga-ka explicitly states that Mikan is stupid in a side column.
But! Mikan is loyal, and sadly lonely when her friend Hotaru moves away to elite school for people with special talents (called 'alices'). So, much to Hotaru's dismay [she only originally made friends because they look cuter as a set], Mikan trucks to Tokyo from Kyoto, to find Hotaru. THEIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LOVE IS SO PURE!
Hotaru always looks sulky, and tells Mikan to find her own partner for school assignments, but if anyone tries to push Mikan around, Hotaru will immediately show up to fuck up their shit.
I think that, for me, it's really refreshing to see a shoujo manga-ka acknowledging her stereotypical protag as stupid, accepting it, and moving on with the plot. Mikan does have other qualities! But it makes the series hilarious. Well, that and Hotaru's facial expressions.
I NEED ICONS.
