SO.
In the last couple of weeks, I picked up my FFXII game again.
I'll have to wait until I'm through the game to decide full judgment on the plot, but thus far, the plot is not my absolute favorite. I expect that I'll have a lot to say about it when I get closer to the end. Thus far, this game is pretty feminist/Christian-y in that the main cast keeps getting nudged toward choosing peace over revenge. It's a band of resistance fighters, but their mode of resistance might change before the end.
I think this game has required me to spend time purposely leveling up my characters more than any other FF game. This is probably because characters only get EXP if they're in your active party - there is no residual EXP put to them! So that's annoying, and I also feel like the plot loses a bit of momentum for me, because it's hard to keep hard of the various Judge characters/political developments when I only see them once ever 5 game-hours.
However! I think that this is the most fun leveling up I've ever had. There are all kinds of goals to try to achieve - enough gil to get better weapons/armor/spells. Continue to battle to get more LP to get certain licenses to get better battle characters, etc.
I have a lot of catch-up to do, because I'd initially left Vaan and Panelo at like, level 15 while leveling everyone else up to 30/31. And now I'm realizing that having a reliable reserve party would actually be super helpful (you can switch out characters mid-battle).
Like most games that don't force you to use the Job Class system, though, I generally make everyone carry the best weapons and do melee attacks. Except Panelo, she's my little black mage.
ANYWAY. That's how I've spent the last 12 hours.
