laceblade: FF7: Cloud looks down into Shinra board meeting. Text: "Ceiling Cloud sees what you did there" (FF7: Ceiling Cloud)

A post the likes of which I've never made before!

UMM.

As you know, Reader, I have been talking about a FF7/Inception crossover fic for months.

I've written about 9,000 words. I signed up for [community profile] megaflare_ff.
But lately I keep....not writing.
And then I thought I'd rewrite the text I have now to feel more confident about it, but mostly what I think is:

"OMG nobody will ever read this!"
"OMG everyone will read this but it's terrible and everyone will judge me!"
"OMG I am a terrible writer!"
"OMG I WILL NEVER SHOW ANYONE ANYTHING."

After letting it sit for about a month at one point, I read the draft from a "fresh" perspective and thought it wasn't TERRIBLE.

BUT.

I need to know it's worth doing! Worth working on, whatever.

SO.

My question is: Are any of you interested in reading the first 900 words or so and letting me know if I should keep going, or if, "Meh, it didn't do much for me, you should just let it go," or something?! Maybe I should keep to short fic?! I don't know?!

[personal profile] sasha_feather votes that what I need is a "cheerleader," and she and [personal profile] wintercreek agree that this is "done" in fandom, like it's a thing and not something I just made up (I somehow miss posts like these when everyone else makes them, I guess, :O ).
AND SO THIS IS MY SOLICITATION.
If you want to read my first scene, please let me know! If you dislike the words, I will not hate you!

/End.

Belatedly, I submit to you proof that this is done: me being all NO ONE WILL READ MY FIC I'M AFRAID, recently. :D

Fear not! Cheerleaders are awesome.

I would like to read your first scene, so long as you give me background on anything I'd need to know, since I know nothing at all about FF7.

And yes, cheerleading is TOTALLY done in fandom. It is at least 50% of the time I put into betaing for people, tbh, and I beta kind of a lot. Only 50% is grammar and plot and structure and character and things. You are far from the only writer in fandom to feel this way during a draft--I think pretty much everyone does.

See? Here is one of my favorite fanwriter's Five Stages of Fic Writing. NOT JUST YOU.

If you don't mind someone ignorant of the fandom I would be happy to cheerlead!!

Also then maybe I could request the favor returned for my K-On! help_japan fic ;_____;

Cheerleaders are totally one of the best bits about fandom. I beta quite frequently and a good 50% of it is handholding and cheerleading rather than suggestions for changes or a grammar check.

It is totally a thing. Some Big Bangs even have an official cheerleader role that people can sign up for (maybe that is something for us to consider next round). I'm glad to see you have gotten some takers! :)

As another person writing a crossover for [community profile] megaflare_ff, I totally feel your fears, especially the "OMG no one will ever read this" part. It doesn't help that all of my usual fic brainstorm partners are unfamiliar with one of the canons (Dragon Age), so I feel like I'm writing in much more of a vacuum than usual. It's hard.
