BSG Season 4 Speculation: The Last Supper Photo Analysis

In case you haven't seen it, here is a link of the picture. I would say that the photo contains one spoiler for the end of Season Three.

Ron Moore has said a number of times that this promo photo contains a lot of clues about the end of the series.

What jumps out at me first is the body language of Anders and Starbuck. His arms surround her, and she almost seems to be shuddering. His lips linger just above her temple, and their bodies seem passionately sexual. It's really out of place, in comparison to everyone else's positions. I'm sure it's also telling that Anders is the only one embracing her. I wonder if Lee will believe her or not. I hope that he does.

Adama and Roslin serve as bookends of the picture. Throughout the series, they have served as the parent figures for the fleet. Both have made tough calls, both have disagreed with each other, etc. But over time, it also seems like they've fallen in love with each other. Still, they are separated by all the crap that lies between them: the Hybrid baby, treachery, Starbuck, Lee, Cylons, and Gaius Baltar. Will their relationship be split apart for good, by events beyond their control?
Laura has lit a small, contained fire. Throughout the series, she has been linked to the Scrolls of Pythia, and spiritually in touch with the gods. The fire could signify her own possible death due to cancer. Next to her hand is a closed book - her mind is made up, she knows what to do. She looks to Bill Adama to see if he's with her. Next to Admiral Adama is an open book. His gaze is forward, away from everyone else and into the distance. He is still searching, still open to new possibilities. Does this mean that Roslin won't believe Starbuck, but Adama will?

Next, I notice Lee, staring at the chalice in front of him. He has traded his pilot outfit for a lawyerly attire. To me, the chalice signifies an undesirable task that will change the course of humanity. Before His crucifixion, Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane for the Lord to "take this cup from his lips." Jesus knew that being crucified would suck a lot, and asked God to take the task away from him.....but obviously went through with it anyway. What task will be put before Lee? Who will put it there? Will he do it?

I don't have much to say about Helo and Sharon, except that they'll probably be protecting their Hybrid baby from dark-haired!Six who is pointing at them angrily from the left. Boo frickin' hoo. I think my favorite Helo/Sharon scene thus far has to be when Helo shot her to send her back to be reborn on the Basestar. That was some hardcore shit, yo.

The Chief looks at his pointy knife intently. I don't know who he would use it on, but there is a glass of water in front of him, and one in front of Baltar. Maybe he kills Gaius? Or maybe it's for himself.

I don't have much to say about Gaius and middle!Six. They're doing what they pretty much always do.....Gaius looking like a startled goofball while Six looks ethereal and tries to position herself as a Messiah.

I can't tell who Colonel Tigh is looking at, given that his "visible" eye is covered by an eye patch. He could be looking at Lee, Baltar, or Starbuck. My guess is Starbuck?

If I have one wish going into this final season, it's that Tigh, Tory, Tyrol, and Anders only think that they're Cylons, but are actually not.

SPOILERS FOR FINAL CYLON INFO NOT YET AIRED IN THE EPISODES. NO INFO ABOUT WHO IT IS, BUT RATHER A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT.

Ron D. Moore also said that the Final Cylon is NOT in the photo. My money is on Felix Gaeta or Starbuck's mother. Or maybe it's Zak! That would be LOL.

The first episode will stream live on SciFi's website today at noon. I'll be at work, and we're having a brat lunch today, so I won't be able to watch until 9pm tonight, like most people. I'll probably avoid LiveJournal until I've seen it. Last year, I was spoiled for most of the episodes before I saw them, but this year I've been trying to avoid spoilers when possible.

Given who the other four new cylons are and the general tone of the show, I figure I won't be able to guess who the fifth is and it won't be anyone obvious. I sorta like the theory that it's someone "dead" like Admiral Adama's father or Kara's mother. That would also serve to multiply the hybrids.

Yeah, the idea of hybrids is pretty interesting to me. A while ago, I had a theory that when the fleet and the Cylons find Earth, they will all make a bunch of hybrids, and the insinuation would be that the current human race is all a bunch of human/Cylon hybrids. I just think it would be cool if they did something like that.

I stopped watching BSG @ the beginning of season 3, after dragging myself thru that awful 2nd half of season 2. But I was gutted to learn that Tyrol was a Cylon. Augh!

&... if the last Cylon is Gaeta, I will feel so vindicated, b/c I was guessing he might be one way back when (I even have some icon somewhere made by someone else who agreed).

Yeah, I don't really blame you....the second half of season 2 had some terrible stuff.

And I agree about Gaeta! There are lots of little things, especially from the beginning of the series, that kind of make everything add up. I can't remember off the top of my head now, but something with the computers, with finding more water, jacking into systems, etc. Things always conveniently happened with Gaeta at the computer.

His relationship with Gaius makes things interesting, too. Fangirl speculation of their secret love aside, at the least he certainly looked up to Gaius, and was then betrayed. I wonder how that would play out if he was revealed to be a Cylon.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but when Adama got shot (I think? Or maybe another tragedy on-board) I remember the camera was just hugging Gaeta, like looking in particular for his reaction, which I thought was suspicious.

& re: him & Gaius, I always thought something was going on for sure! I mean, even his name wasn't GAY-ta. ;)

Oh yeah, that was one of the thing! I've been told that if you look really carefully, you can see Gaeta hand something to Boomer before she shoots Adama - insinuating that he hands her the gun. I haven't checked this out myself yet, though.

Oh oh! I remember folks saying that too. I never watched it that closely--so either I picked that up subconsciously or the whole scene was suspicious w/how much attention was paid to Gaeta (w/o him saying anything out loud or having anything said to him that would justify why the camera kept checking on how he was reacting).
