Brought to you by sleep deprivation

Okay. Are Warren, Jonathan and Andrew really the villains of Buffy, season 6? I guess I just expected this to segue into them getting killed by a demon who would be the real Big Bad, or something, after a few episodes. I just.....really? Yes, they're funny to watch, and it's pretty lol how they "made a pact to kill Buffy." But. I really was expecting them to just get owned.

I didn't find it very believable that Giles would leave in the first episode, when Buffy was still dead. It doesn't make sense to me. Buffy is his world, like a daughter to him. Would he really just leave Dawn, Xander, and Willow like that? I don't think so. I don't understand why he wants to leave so badly.

BUT, I loved him yelling at Willow, like really hardcore, calling her an "idiot girl." Her response was pretty scary, too, telling him that he should look up to her for being so powerful, etc. I find it weird that Giles hasn't been warning anyone else about Willow's questionable behavior, namely Buffy. Or even Spike. Giles and Spike seem to generally dismiss one another, but if they would actually trade notes or something, they could probably pre-empt a lot of this crap.

I also find it weird that nobody else on the show has freaked out on Willow for dabbling in such a hardcore spell, except for Giles and Spike. Especially after everyone had to explain to Dawn that it was not okay for her to resurrect her mother (although, now that I think about it, Willow was the one who purposely left out a book on witchcraft for Dawn, wasn't she? Hmmm....). Apparently, it's a horrible taboo that can never be broken....except when we decide we "need" Buffy. I understand that the show needs to have Buffy alive in order to continue. But.

Speaking of Spike! I love him and his love for Buffy. I like that she keeps hanging out with him because there's no one else to go to. It's weird for both Willow and Xander to have been in relationships for so long. She should do more sisterly things with Dawn, or something. But anyway, I love Spike. I love his pet names for everyone - calling Dawn "Little Bit," and when he takes Buffy to watch him play kitten poker, he keeps calling her "my girl," and she doesn't punch him in the face for it. Mostly, I love watching how honest Buffy is with Spike. I don't know if she loves him or not, but she definitely trusts him with information and feelings that she doesn't tell anybody else, including Willow, Dawn, Giles, Xander, and possibly Angel (I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED). Also, love how amused Spike is when Buffy's drunk. You can tell he's head over heels, just by the way he looks at her.

Fail
I think that last semester ruined me for responsible project habits. Last semester, papers and exams and projects were scheduled in such a way that everything was always one right after the other, and it was nigh on impossible for me to start anything more than 2 days before it was due. My grades turned out fine, but I'm just used to starting a paper more in advance.

The habits seem to have carried over to this semester, even though I have more time, and things are more spaced out (except for this week, WTF!). Last night I fell asleep around midnight and woke up at 2am, wrote a 4-page paper, and went to bed again at 3:30. Woke up at 6:45 for the day. Over breakfast, I decided it would be a good idea to cite the text, as it was an English paper (BWAHAHA).

Anyway, the paper is done and will be handed in during my next class. After that, I have a ballroom dance practical on Monday (on the Waltz) and my Constitutional Law midterm due Tuesday. After that, I just have one exam before Spring Break, so I guess that's good.

Win
Yes, this means that I only have one episode before the Buffy musical, so hopefully I can watch both of those this weekend. SO EXCITED, omg. Then I can finally download the songs without fear of minor spoilers, and listen to them repeatedly forever.

I have decided what my Buffy icon needs to be. Buffy, looking feisty, preferably shaking a finger in a scolding way. Text: "You are a neutered vampire who cheats at kitten poker!"

Latest Addition to my car woes
$20 parking ticket because I didn't move my car to the other side of the street last night. I thought I only had to do that during a snow emergency, but APPARENTLY I WAS WRONG. At least it's only $20 and I can pay it online (I hope).

By way of [livejournal.com profile] yhlee, I read this article on Slate.com explaining how Digg and Wikipedia are websites in which a small minority of Internet-users are deciding the content and popularity of the Internet as a whole. It's an interesting read. I use Wikipedia all the time because it's much more useful for things like Final Fantasy VII or the latest anime series than, say, Encyclopedia Britannica would be. I fail to understand the use of websites like Digg, StumbleUpon, and Del.icio.us. I really don't give a shit how many other people have read and liked a page on the Internet. All I care about is whether or not I will like it. If I want to find something random, I'll go to Fark.com (Best news site EVER).

I am in love with this blog post by Ann Althouse: Obama, Farrakhan, and how Hillary Clinton took the opening and then squandered it. In the post, she dissects the rhetoric behind Tim Russert's question to Obama about Farrakhan in Tuesday night's debate, and how Hillary almost totally owned him, and then didn't. I feel like this is going to be a defining moment if she loses to Obama. Obama gives the wrong answer to a serious question, Hillary watches him shoot himself in the foot and makes herself look much stronger....until she backs off, Obama turns her point into a joke, and instead of arguing further, everyone has a good laugh, including the audience, the candidates, and the moderators. And Obama scores hugely.

SlateV had a video up on its main page last night pointing out the similarities between Barack Obama and this year's presidential campaign, and the one shown on The West Wing in its final seasons. Apparently, fictional character Matthew Santos was based on Barack Obama to begin with, although other similarities (fighting an entrenched Democrat; a moderate Republican, etc.) are obviously coincidental.

YAY for the musical episode!!! I listen to the soundtrack pretty much constantly in my car... it really doesn't get old.

I think the show addresses some of your quibbles as season 6 progresses, especially the stuff about Willow being all immoral about magic. Just enjoy Jonathan, Warren, and Andrew and don't fret too much about them being this season's Big Bad. This season's Big Bad situation is kind of different from previous seasons, you just hafta go with it.

WELL, given the spoilers I'm aware of (in some relatively recent post), I'm pretty sure I know how that's going to turn out.

'Cause I knew that ______ gets killed by a guy named Warren. So I'm betting that happens this season, followed shortly by.....evil!_______.

*gestures wildly at your icon*

I want to go find Buffy icons, but I'm afraid of random spoilers. It's silly, 'cause by the time that spoilers don't matter any more, I won't post about Buffy as often. I should just find one.

Okay, it's probably not much of a secret that I'm not the biggest fan of season six, but gahhhhh I really love its beginning! "Life Serial" is right up there as one of my all-time favourite episodes, and it's insanely quotable, isn't it? And actually, oh, one of my friends went to a convention and met James C. Leary, who plays Clem, who is amazingly fantastic in that episode and anyways she basically told him about my giant dorky fangirl love for him and managed to get me a free (free!) autographed picture. So now I love him even more. And... um... yes. Gosh. That's just such a great episode, and of course "Once More With Feeling" will no doubt live up to all of the glowing reviews you've heard thus far!

Yeah, season six has kind of a funny-not-haha arc in the middle, but I like the way it ends.

I did some Buffy icon searches and I don't think there are too many spoilers. I will try to find you a Spike-kittens one, though, because I'm nice :)
