Loose Ends and Battlestar Galactica
If you read my last post, or even if you didn't, I just thought I'd give an update. When I called my state senator today, I was informed that the bill lowering the hunting age to 8 has apparently been taken off the floor and put back into committee, and it's doubtful whether or not it will come up again. And to that, I must say: Thank God.
And now for Battlestar Galactica
To be succinct, I liked the plot of this episode but not its execution. The storyline made sense to me. It makes sense to me that Lee feels uncomfortable getting too close to people he actually cares about and turns instead to a prostitute. I liked Fisk, but didn't care so much about him that I was terribly disappointed when he died. I liked that Lee decided the Black Market is necessary - for the fleet, it is. I liked that he shot the guy in the head.
Here is what I didn't like: 1) The entire plot happened in one episode. Except for the threads of a Lee/Dualla relationship (that doesn't make sense to me, but at least it's been hinted at), everything in this episode came out of nowhere. I think the whole plot, especially Lee's background, would have been much better told had it been sprinkled throughout episodes. Apollo is one of my favorite characters and I love him every time he's on screen, but I just didn't feel like it worked well. I like watching movies and television the best when there are multiple plots going on at once. Baltar finding his spine was interesting, but that's about all the outside action that there was.
2) Where the hell is Kara?? Even if you don't see/want Kara/Lee to happen, I think we can safely say that they are best friends. They always have each other's back. They are close to the point that they can hurt each other without damaging their relationship - she slaps him, he slaps her back right back (I love that scene). So we have an entire episode of Apollo and she's not even in one scene? I don't buy it. Given their friendship, it doesn't make any sense that she is completely absent from this episode.
I'd like to add a paragraph here saying that the Dualla/Lee relationship is not making any sense to me at all. His response to her questioning him on their "relationship" was hella cold, yes. But where the heck is this coming from? We've seen them getting pretty close in one scene, and Dualla being all creepy/eavesdropping in another. It doesn't make sense to me that either of them would be interested in the other. That scene of her doing situps with Billy killed me because he is so head-over-heels for her and what does she do? Looks at Lee, finishes her situp, and kisses Billy. You are not allowed to play Billy!
Annnnnd, after that, as Battlestar Galactica always does to me, I have a lot of questions.
When Lee states his offer, I'm at a bit of a loss. Child prostitution is definitely not okay. But why is the prostitution of women just accepted as part of the Black Market? Their revelation of child prostitution was pretty horrifying - "It's hard to find the moral high ground when we're all standing in the mud?" Um, come again?? Child prostitution is never okay. I am okay with the bullet that Lee put in this guy.
Why is President Roslin not doing anything about Baltar?? Nicely offering him the chance to resign? We know Roslin is a hardass when it comes to Cylons. What the hell is she doing? On a side note, I love the look on Gaius's face when Roslin asks him why she thinks it is that they never know where they stand with each other. I can just hear him, "I know exactly where you stand, you two-faced bitch!" Wow, I really liked Gaius standing up to Roslin.
Who is in charge of Pegasus now? Does Kara get promoted? That would explain the heavy drinking. Kara in charge of a Battlestar amuses me, :)
Randomly, I did like Zarek posing the question, "Did you really expect some Utopian fantasy to rise from the ashes?"
Anything non-Battlestar Galactica?
My cellphone broke in half yesterday, so that obviously sucks. I have a ton of homework and I feel like I'm too stupid to do it adequately. I don't have enough time to do anything that I love doing any more. It seems like the more time that goes on, the less and less I have meaningful conversations with people. Like the older I get, the more surface-based everything becomes. I don't want my life to be like that. But that's basically it; I should mention randomly that I actually tend to journal in my blog.

There's no official word in the show itself, but it's been very strongly implied that, both in the original and in the new version, prostitution is perfectly legal in the Colonial world, at least on some of the planets. The Ron Moore commentary is pretty clear that it is legal. Which makes perfect sense, the laws against prostitution in the real world are mostly a Christian artifact, and they don't have Christianity to deal with.

>>> At this point, she doesn't have any proof of his treason. All she has is a recollection of something she saw many months ago; a recollection which occurred while she was drifting in-and-out of consciousness, at death's door. She needs a hell of a lot more than that to have an elected government official (which Baltar is) tossed out of an air-lock.

I can see her distrusting Baltar but not really believing he's working with the Cylons. I mean, I think if she seriously thought he was a Cylon spy, she wouldn't engage in verbal fencing, she'd try to set a trap for him to prove her suspicions right. If she really believed he were in collusion with the Cylons, then letting him wander around would put the Fleet at enormous risk, so she'd want to do something to ensure the Fleet's safety, and quickly. I see it more as a generalized distrust, rather than a specific belief that Baltar is canoodling with Cylon blondes.

Oh my God, that actually happened? Sorry, I stopped watching the show last season, so I haven't really been keeping up with it... Wow, maybe I should start watching it again. I hate Roslin with a fiery passion, and while I don't exactly like Gaius as a person, I love him as a character. I remember last season everybody was getting all pissy because, "Baltar is such a scumbag! Why don't they just get rid of him? Ugggh!!" Seriously, he is the most compelling character on the show and the main reason why I watched.

whore
Scar will be awesome and I can't wait to see it. But yeah, this episode was like ehhhhhhhhhhh whatever.
Ok g2g.
BYE WHORE!
Re: whore
I just think it would be funny if she gets command of Pegasus, not that she will. She's still the CAG over there, right?
But yeah, I'm excited for Scar too. Lee is angsty and now Kara will be too, and that might lead to MAD, PASSIONATE SEX!

Though this episode had some potential..I felt like it wasn't in sync with the series... especially because Kara was conveniently absent (weird)...The background for Lee was vague (at best) and they made such a big deal about him killing that black market boss; I personally didn't see it as that big of a deal...but whatev.
Plus, if Dualla is playing Billy, I hope she's a cylon and gets killed because...Billy is so nice!
Oh BSG...
