BSG: Instant Review!

To all of you non-BSG people (almost all of my friends list), there is not much to be said in way of news. I'm home for the weekend, and my first midterm will be on Friday in English (only 5 weeks in - what the heck!). I'm starting to have papers due in my classes, which is not okay. And starting this Monday, I'm going to be interning at the campaign office for my congressman who happens to be running for Governor of Wisconsin. So, hopefully that will be really cool. Of course, it means I have to tote my 'business casual' attire out of the closet and back to school with me, :/ It probably also means heels.

Anyway, to those who *are* BSG people....feel free to friend me. You guys are all very cool, although I should point out that my actual journal is not on my LJ, but in my blog: http://theviewfromnow.blogspot.com My posts pertaining to real life events tend to be much more coherent, ;)

I fully expect there to be A Fandom Eruption after tonight's episode. And by eruption, I mean: "We love Billy! And we love Battlestar Galactica for having a pair and using it!"

I'm home from college this weekend, so I think the best part of my viewing experience was being forced to watch the episode with my father, who usually doesn't watch the show. So, you get scenes like this one:
Lee: *is shot*
Starbuck: *is horrified*
Me: LEE! NO! NOT ALLOWED!
Dad: He's dead.
Me: Don't say that! They can't kill him, they'll lose the female fans for protest!
Lee: *bleeds*
Dad: He's a dead man.
Me: *silently cries*

I think he also might have started chuckling when I realized Billy was actually dead and freaked out. I think I can definitely say that Battlestar Galactica is the only TV show that has ever gotten me to yell, aside from The West Wing.

But, yeah. Wow, I think I have goosebumps from this episode. All I can say is....NICE WORK. The way it was set up, I was like, "Yawn, some stupid people in the fleet decide it's a good idea to thin out the race a little bit more....there will be gun-waving and yelling and false tenseness, and then it'll all wrap up nicely for next week."
PSYCHE.
I've always thought Billy was intelligent and awesome. And I appreciated his scenes in this episode. His childlike glee when asking Dee to marry him, his indignation when discovering she was with Lee - and I totally agree. For Dee to go behind his back (and we can completely assume she did, right? She was definitely acting like she was in a relationship with Billy) with Lee and just expect things to be all right was naive and irresponsible. If she didn't like Billy any more, then she should have told him - the end.

Billy had the makings of a good press secretary for Roslin. He had so many good lines in this episode..."They're all good men." Can someone make an icon of Billy with that on it?? That would be great.

After Lee got shot, I knew they wouldn't kill him, but I assumed that that would be the big drama of the episode. I didn't see Billy's death coming at all. And the way it was set up....talk about angst. Dee telling him to stop looking at the guns; he doesn't have anything to prove. Billy: "I know." And then continues sizing them up. If Dee is not shown as having guilt for Billy's death, then I think that that would just be weird. Although, thus far her feelings do seem really irrational.

Poor Kara. I felt really bad for her....not only was it her bullet that hit Lee, but at the end, she sees Dee sitting at his bedside, saying the things she couldn't say after he told her he didn't want to come back alive. I can see Dualla being attracted to Lee, but his feelings for her seem to come out of nowhere. Right before the Cylon attack, he's engaged to a woman. He's put back with Kara, where sparks continue to fly, and he sees a prostitute. When did Dee happen? I don't know, but in the last episode, I thought it was really obvious that Lee cared for Kara. She slapped him, but when she kissed him, he kind of threw up his hand like "what the hell is your problem!" and then just melted into her. I felt like he was being patient, waiting for her to sort through the massive pile of issues that was in front of her, but that he definitely had feelings for her. :/

As Roslin said, "This isn't about Sharon," and it wasn't. But what about Sharon? Or, perhaps I should listen to Colonel Tigh - By the way, it's not 'Sharon.' It's a frakkin' Cylon. I do find it strange that Adama just listens to everything she says. I acknowledge she's saved their asses a couple of times, but they must know that her programming overrides whatever feelings she happens to have. She shot Adama, for frak's sake. That shot of her at the end was rather creepy. She has to be up to something....right?

Billy, I still love you, even if Dee doesn't! There are fangirls who would gladly date you instead! Goodbye, ;_;

it felt natural to me that lee would be interested in dee after his ordeal with starbuck. he obviously loves starbuck, but she's a mess right now and into that other guy, so lee knows he has to focus on someone else -- he's trying to push starbuck out of his mind, and what better way to forget about someone than to find a new someone? i dunno.. i like the way the show handles relationships. it all feels very realistic to me.

and yeah, that last shot with sharon was creepy.. it's funny, i keep forgetting that the baby isn't born yet. thanks to those damn commercials, i keep seeing her pregnant tummy and going, "what?!? oh yeah..." heh :D

I *mostly* like the way the show handles relationships, it's just Lee liking Dee that I couldn't understand - and I guess that you're right; it does make sense that Starbuck is acting too messed up for him to not turn to someone else - but according to Dee, they had sparks before that whole mess, too? I guess when you're Lee Adama, it's hard not to have at least 4 relationships going on, ;D

And okay, I usually don't watch the episodes live, but on a VHS tape or a DVD-R or something, so I had never actually seen the entire baby commercial until tonight. I had thought it was some pro-life commercial or something, so it was actually quite amusing when I realized it was the Cylon!baby.

BILLLLLLLLY!
I thought he'd only been shot in the arm...until he died.

I yell at the tv during BSG too....mostly "NOOOOOOOOOO"

I'm kind of glad Adama feels he can kind of trust Sharon. Although I thought he would actually kill her for a minute until I remembered...oh yeah...the multipule copies thing...duh

ME TOO! I was like, oh, well now both Lee and Billy are shot and they can glare at each other in sickbay---wait....no...NO!

And yeah, I thought the same thing with the copies. I was like, "Helo's going to blow somebody's head off---wait, there are 2 Sharons - NICE ONE, Adama!" (except for the whole Billy-dying-part)

okay, I'm glad I wasn't alone on being shocked about Billy even after he got shot: I seriously thought he would be a-ok. When I saw his death stare I was floored.

Lee: *bleeds*
^^^Lee makes bleeding pretty dramatic ;)

IMHO Tigh was right: Adama definately has some issues with how he views Sharon that he needs to work out.

Billy's death really did come out of nowhere.

For most of the night, I was all angry with the show and angry with Dee and everytime Billy came on-screen, I was like, "oh, you poor kid. You're gonna get your heart broken tonight." And then he gets shot.

Me: Oh shit, they shot Billy! *sigh* But he's still gonna get his heart broken.
Friend: Uh...his heart looks...pretty broken right now. As in it's not working anymore.
Me: Wait...what? WHAT? IS HE DEAD? ... HE'S DEAD! WTF?! NOOO!

Very upsetting. But I'm glad they went there, for I too was expecting this episode to be run-of-the-mill, and then it wasn't! It was filled with BSG Actual craziness instead of BSG On Crack craziness, and that is encouraging.
