Thirty

I keep wanting to make a post about turning thirty*, but pre-WisCon anxiety has reduced me to a person unwilling to leave the apartment to go out for dinner BECAUSE STRESS.

[Once WisCon STARTS, I will be fine. Until it starts, I'll be in a perpetual state of losing my shit.]

I know turning an age, or a year turning over, or whatever, doesn't really change things. But I really hope that my thirties are better than my twenties. I feel way older than I am, is that pretentious? lol.

I really hope I'll have more time to blog once WisCon's done.

I know you said it wasn't a call for birthday wishes, but happy birthday all the same! I turned 30 last September, and my roommate turned 30 last month, so I understand having feelings about leaving the 20s behind. I hope you treated yourself somehow!

And feel free to PM me if you need to vent any pre-WisCon stress. I'm super excited for WisCon but yeah, nervous too. My hopes for the con are always so high that minor disappointments get magnified. It's such a highlight of the year for me that I sometimes lose my bearings.

You have every reason to feel like 30 is also about leveling up. Unlike many of your age peers, you've encountered an adult level of job, family, & fannish challenges. I look forward to you developing the curate of your experience and sharing with your community

From the other side of 40, I can promise that 30s aren't so bad. :) (40s haven't been bad either, so far.)

One of my cousins is just a few years older than I am, and she's convinced that it never stops getting better. Well maybe not into our 80s, but we haven't gotten there yet.

I think that the thirties let you carry on and continue with all progress and forward motion that you finally started in your twenties. Angst never goes completely away, but at least you're not even close to a teenager any more. Which can be quite a relief.

I was 30 at Wiscon 30! The world held so much promise to me.... Now my outlook is generally better.
