WisCon 37 Anime/Manga Programming Idea-Generation Fest
Let’s talk about what we would like to see at WisCon 37 for anime/manga programming. Post any thoughts you have, however semi-formed.
People can comment & try to come up with the best panels possible! At WisCon, anyone can suggest panel ideas: People who run the convention, authors, attendees, or people who have never attended WisCon and never will. Thus: Please feel free to join in!
If the comments go in a direction you dislike, or you don't want to participate in the discussion, you can submit your own program idea here.
Programming submissions will close in a couple weeks.

Would a description as simple as, "Let's talk about how trans people are represented in anime and manga," suffice?

That might be enough. Though I really do want it restricted to trans people, and possibly even specifically trans women. There are a lot of cross-gender themes in anime and manga that aren't actually about trans people's experiences, and I don't want to open the topic that wide. "Looking Beyond the Gender Binary in Anime and Manga" was, as I understand it, about thirdness rather than about specifically trans experience; thirdness is a good topic to explore, but I'd like to see one devoted to trans people only. I've been on panels about any and all cross-gender phenomena in anime and manga, and they tend to go very octopus-shaped. A contrast with Western portrayals isn't necessary, I think. Really, it feels like there might be enough to talk about if it's restricted to just F. Compo and Hourou Musuko.

Of course, if both you and I submit a similar idea, the programming committee will work their magic to make it into one description.
