So, someobody's going to (or has already) write an essay about this show's treatment of fandom, right?

I mean, the relationship between Sherlock and John, and sexuality (Sherlock's asexuality, his homosexuality, his heterosexuality) is almost its own character. Episode 2.1 especially, obviously.

But like, when given the opportunity to talk about fans, the show (or at least Sherlock) seems dismissive (there are only 2 kinds).

It's like the show relies on our reactions and seems to purposely troll us in order to make the highest emotional impact possible, but then slaps your face.

I wish I could be more eloquent about this topic! But personal life at the moment says, "lol!no!"

I don't disagree at all about the trolling, but I didn't take Sherlock's comments about fans at face value. He's supposed to be a jerk who doesn't like people, after all.
