Buffy Re-Watch: Complete

Came home from work today feeling emotionally drained and first-day-of-lady-time-ish, so I laid down and finished my epic re-watch of the Buffy series.

Can Season 7 be my favorite?? I think it might be? It's so hard!

So then, my order for seasons is 7, 5, 3, 2, 6, 4, 1. Seemingly random order?? Maybe.

I think that Spike might be my favorite character aside from Buffy. Can that happen?? His relationship with Buffy is so much more realistic than Angel's.
And attempted rape is obviously extremely problematic, but I think they're also making a statement about it - Spike tried to rape Buffy because it's something someone does when they are soulless. With the soul, he selflessly declares his love for her in the tenderest way. I don't know. I feel like I am a bad feminist for being a sucker for Spike. I can't help it, Internet, it's the cheekbones.

I think my main complain about the post-series comics is that Spike is in Angel: After the Fall, and not Buffy Season 8. Like he could ever leave her side.

Other notes? Overall in the rewatch, I could not stand Xander Seasons 1-3. Liked him in Seasons 5 and 6 and the first part of Season 7.

I was more interested in Willow's magic arc this time around than the first time.

I like Dawn. A lot. I love her kicking Buffy in the shin and calling her a dumbass.

Most of all I like Buffy. Maybe because I'm self-centered and into over-analyzing and being focused on ME and MY ISSUES like she is? But Buffy has a reason to feel superior. Maybe I'm a Slayer too, bitches. You never know.

Woot!

I feel you on everything you said about Spike. Oh, how I love him, how I love him and Buffy together, how I love his love for Buffy. In fact, as a Buffy-lover, it might interest you to know that I finally started loving Buffy myself when Spike fell in love with her because the way he loved her finally made me see her in a way that was lovable.

On Xander - may I ask why you only liked him the first part of season 7?

I guess that the latter half of season 7 wasn't that I disliked him so much as he really didn't do anything. For example, Andrew and Anya were a lot more interesting to me despite having been on the show much less.

Hah hah, after you were talking about watching S7 last weekend, T. started watching it over again. I think S7 in particular is rewarding on a rewatch, and it's one of my favorite seasons, too!
