Really?

More weird-ass shit from Father Benjamin! In this post, he tried to address the very serious topic of feminism (only referred to in the past tense, and cites The Feminine Mystique as feminism's manifesto - a book that focused on the issues of middle-class white women in the 1960s), but it somehow morphed into gay people being obsessed with gender, and needing to focus on God more, and then everything will magically fall into place.

Yeah, I didn't get it either.

Also, what up with Kathryn Cramer? If you're going to call people out on the Internet, you cannot be passive aggressive. End.

As rough as it has been for you in dealing with this man in particular, I just need to let you know how much I admire you for living your faith in such a dynamic way, with full critical engagement.

You inspire me.

I have no blushing LJ icon!

Thank you.

Whoa. I think this one might be the most heinous yet.

When men are not challenged to be fathers and leaders, they stagnate in adolescence. They live lives focused on their selfish needs and bodily urges. Men who refuse to grow up seem to be a major cause of divorce today.

Women! Let your fathers and husbands order you around, or they'll never mature properly! This is such bunk. Way to blame your fail on women. This also reminds me of the prevalent idea that couples who don't have children never develop a sense of nurturing or truly appreciate money and how to spend it wisely. Having kids (or a spouse) to order around doesn't magically give you the answers! You can have them and still suck at all of these things!

Because it allows women to find their place as daughters of God, and helps men discover their meaning as sons of God, it unites men and women as brothers and sisters.

Women "find their place", while men "discover their meaning"? I see what you did there!

...the true problem is that gender and sex are inadequate ways of fully expressing the human person.

No, the problem is that the Catholic church refuses to get over its obsession with persecuting LGBTs.

Man, I don't know how you put up with reading this guy. Your fortitude vastly exceeds mine.

Also, your response to him is made of pure win. (Just read it now)

Wow. I didn't click through to the original. You have more intestinal fortitude than I do for even posting those bits. There must be a reason why the Mass lets us hear from two readings and a Gospel passage before the sermon, otherwise I wouldn't last five minutes in that parish.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one super bothered by his post. Is this really what is being taught? There's soo many things I want to say, but I can't even process the feelings I have with words. IT's just mind boggling. It's so true what you say about them constantly reminding us how "freakish" we are. It's just mind boggling. It's been a long time since I've bothered by church rhetoric. How interesting.
