I like media

All you lucky bastards who have this movie playing in your city had better blog about it!!

Watched "The Prestige" last night. It was bad-ass. I preferred Hugh Jackman's character to Christian Bale's, but then Bale's mostly just yelled a lot during the movie. Still, I was unspoiled for all of the turns and surprises, which made things fun. Also, the presence of David Bowie increases the greatness of any movie by 10 points.

You can get the first episodes of the animes Honey & Clover and NANA on iTunes for free now through August 31. Both of these series are examples of realistic (they're still dramatic, but there are no transformations to magical school girls) shojo, and they are two of my favorite series of all time. An article with more information on Honey & Clover is here, while there is also one on NANA here. I have been waiting for these to be released in the U.S. for a long time!

Today's Kate Beaton comic is about the Bronte sisters, and it is glorious.
I bought a used copy of a book claiming to be a metabiography of the Brontes today at a bookstore. OM NOM NOM.

David Bowie AS NIKOLA TESLA. Add 10 more points!! Tho' i haven't seen it yet. I mean, i'm intrigued by it, but i'm not sure i'm intrigued enough to watch it, even for Bowie-as-Tesla.

"Honey and Clover"! I didn't realize it was a manga and anime! I've seen the live action movie, and it was soooo awesome!

OMG THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE IS SO NOT AS GOOD AS THE MANGA OR THE ANIME!!

I love the manga - I love Chica Umino's artwork. BUT, this is a rare case where I might like the anime better, I think. The use of music in the series really just sets the mood. I hope they keep all of the Japanese songs in the U.S. release. Holy crap, seriously, if you liked the live-action movie, go read the manga (the original format, 10 volumes) and watch the anime (s.1 = 24 episodes, s.2 = 12 I think) right now!!!

I've watched NANA on the FUNimation channel on demand....I was so freaking excited that it's finally out!!!!!! Also! I'm currently working on getting permission from VIZ to show both shows at Geek.Kon this year since the first boxes will be out in September and I've been waiting for like 3 years for both of them!!!!!!

While I could conceivably drive to Seattle to see B:TLV, I think it'll have to wait for DVD. Sounds pretty fantastic, though.

I love The Prestige! Hugh Jackman seriously needs to do more dramatic work. C and I loved him in The Fountain. Christopher Nolan is just generally made of win, too. See: Memento.

Thanks for that Hark! A Vagrant link. My brain generally has a hard time wrapping itself around her artwork, but it's worth it for awesomeness like that.
