About that....

So, LiveJournal is having a paid account sale right now, but the "sale price" for a year's price is $20, as opposed to their "normal price of $25." But wasn't their normal year-long price $20 like, yesterday?

I've been considering getting a paid account for a while now (MUST HAVE MORE ICONS), and I guess now might be a good time?

EDIT: Mmmmkay, I apparently can't read. What exactly is the difference between a recurring payment and a one-time payment? You still have to pay every year. I don't get it.

There are numerous items at the grocery store where I've come to dread them going on sale, because it means that a price hike is coming very soon. I'm sure there's some standard marketing jargon for this process -- put it on sale, then hike up the price -- but my brain is already littered with enough business drivel. :)

it saves them money on processing. also, you are more likely to let a recurring payment recur than to pay again, if you really don't care either way. so if you go for that option, they figure they will get more in the long run.

Okay, that makes sense.

A recurring payment means you set up an ongoing account, and authorize them to bill your credit card every year on the due date. It's pretty common on web sites these days.

I'm guessing that you get a better rate for setting up recurring payments vs. one-time pay, because you're more likely to stay a long-term subscriber if you don't actually have to do anything to resubscribe. This, in turn, gives the site more long-term stability if they can assume that a good percentage of their paid users will continue paying.

My paid LJ account is one of the frivolous things I've spent money on and never regretted. No ads, Scrapbook, mountains of userpics, voice posts, and theoretically you get a faster connection when the servers are under strain.
