Attn: Wiscon Book Club

Ahhh, the benefits of all of Wiscon Book Club people being on LiveJournal.

All of the copies of Shelley Jackson's Half-Life are checked out (presumably by you!), and I am not keen on buying the book because 1) I don't think I'll like it, based on reviews I've heard, and 2) I am paid by the hour and not exactly lining my walls with money.

THUS, my question is: Is anybody finished with the book yet, and if so, would they like to lend it to me?

I am so out of it. I've been going to Wiscon for about 15 years and never knew there was a bookclub. See what having kids does to our brains.

You're not out of it (I don't think)! [livejournal.com profile] were_duck created one a couple of months before this year's Wiscon. Local Madison people get together at a bar somewhere on Capitol Square (lately, Brocach) and discuss a feminist sci-fi book. We've read China Mountain Zhang and Daughters of the North, and are now reading Half-Life. If you live in Madison (I'm not sure?!), you should totally come!

Nope, I'm here in Milwaukee. Looking into finding a local group in my area open to genre books by women. I think someone said Broad Vocab has one there. Great store!

Do you know about LibraryThing (http://www.librarything.com/)? They now have LibraryThing Local (http://www.librarything.com/local), where you can look up stores & events that are near you. (All the events are entered by LT members, though, so your local alternative paper's listings might be more complete.)

Nope I didn't know about it. Thanks for the heads up.
