Book Talk

Does anyone know if there is a limit to how many books a person can put on hold at the public library? Yesterday, I put hold requests on 22 volumes of manga. I CACKLE FOREVER.

Sorry I haven't been blogging much. Now that Kristy's moved into town, we've been spending our evenings at Antoine's house, playing Mario Kart and watching Arrested Development (Dave, you should do it! We're working on Disc 1, and Jennifer has seen it too). It's kind of nice to not be spending so much time online, though.

I hope to write today about manga, specifically xxxHolic and Tsubasa Chronicle, which I have now begun. I understand now why people were so eager to say, "Skip most of CLAMP's old stuff and just read those, they're awesome!" Because they are so awesome! There is a huge jump in quality in my opinion, particularly in the pacing of the storytelling. I have been taking notes while reading - something for which my co-workers ridicule me.

I had intended to blog about it last night, but I wanted to find a CLAMP LiveJournal icon. Of course, I fell asleep on top of my covers before I could accomplish this task.

I used to work at a public library and I'm not sure it ever came up! I think you can only have 100 things checked out at once, though.

Oooohh, I don't think I've ever had more than 50 checked out at once. That is good to know, though!

SCLS: 100 checked out, 75 holds

I have something like 200 things on hold :)

My friend's mother volunteers at the library and she said that the recommended number of holds is... wait for it... 4.

hah hah, wow. recommended, eh? I never heard that. Maybe she doesn't like checking in red boxes for hours on end...

Holy crap! I feel mostly better now, although one of my co-workers is giving me shit, saying I'm stealing the manga from small children.

Of course, it is because of the punk kids that all of the manga is always checked out, and I have to use the hold system in the first place!

LOL recommended number of holds. I'm sure it's annoying for librarians, but a lot of manga series are scattered at libraries. Volumes 1-3 will be at one branch, 4-6 will be somewhere else, etc. Meh. It's a convenient service, and if it's available, I don't feel bad for using it.

Hey's it's only stealing if you don't bring them back. And after you have too many books overdue (or more than $10 in fines), then you can't check out more books -- or put more on hold. And that would be Bad.

they probably are thinking about items that only have a week wait or something. i wouldn't want 200 books to come up in the same month for instance.

Two hundred? Seriously? I could only put about 75 on hold through Linkcat before they told me my limit was reached. I demand to be able to have 200! *stomps feet like a petulant child*

Tsubasa and xxxHolic will eat you alive. And then you will be like me and get all caught up w/ them, and go "I MUST HAVE MORE CLAMP NOW! I SHALL NOW READ THEIR OLD STUFF!"

I've actually read almost all of their old stuff, bwahaha! I've been doing a Great CLAMP Reading Project for a few months now, and blogged about most of what I've read (I still have 1.5 volumes of X to read, and then need to write an entry about it): http://mystickeeper.livejournal.com/tag/manga:+clamp

Well, the next few months should be full of my discovering various clamp things for the firt time...

Yay! Then you can blog about it, and I can leave squeeful comments.

Heh. And I often blog on a volume-by-volume basis, too...
