BSG Live-Blogging: 4.1, "He That Believeth in Me"

Check this spot throughout the hour, as I'll be live-blogging my watching of the season premiere of Battlestar Galactica.

I'm catching the last 15 minutes or so of the season 3 finale, and I sort of wish that I had had time to rewatch some episodes, or at least have scoured the Battlestar Wiki.

8:48pm: Jeez, I forgot how lame the Four-Cylon Reveal was. "I can't get no relief." Really? REALLY?

8:50pm: You at least have to appreciate Colonel Tigh, being badass to the end: "DEADBOLT THAT FRAKKING DOOR." I love his way of speaking. His facial expressions. Also forgot how cute Anders is.

8:52pm: HOLY SHIT, Chad just came back home and turned on the surround sound (I'm in his room, in case my roommate brings friends over and takes over the living room.)......HOLY MAN, IT'S LIKE I'M INSIDE THE SHIP!!

Go Colonel Tigh!! "That's the man I'll be." Yeah!

8:53pm: Can they really take the pilot out of Lee? He's got his suit on, his tie, but he still runs for his Viper when there's a crisis.

8:56pm: Watching Lee/Kara interactions is about 75% of why I still watch this show. I love them together, no matter what they're doing! The look on his face when he sees Starbuck! OMG, so adorable!
But seriously, the Watchtower song is just way out of place?

8:57pm: Okay, so I'm pretty excited to see what will happen. I'll admit it.

8:59pm: OH MY GOD IT'S NOW!

9:00pm: Ummm....so does that mean those four are Cylons for sure? B.S., I want it to be a fake-out!!
Lee's cry of "NO!" when Starbuck's ship rips apart was truly heart-breaking. Sadface.
Kara and Lee! Kara and Lee! Of course, it has to start here! Lee just staring in disbelief, lolol, "Nah, nah, this is just frakkin' crazy." They're so cute! I love them! I should really stop with the fangirl glee.
How hardened everyone has become, that no one is willing to believe that it's Kara.
She starts off by killing Cylons. A step. Not enough for Roslin, obviously.
IS THIS A DREAM? WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!
Oh my God. FUCK YOU, RON MOORE. YOU HAVE TOYED WITH ME TOO MANY TIMES.
I like the collusion, the Chief, telling Anders to get his head in the game.

9:05pm: Okay watching this with Chad is just not going to work. He bursts out laughing every time a character says, "Frak." Also, "Ohh, this is the ex-president guy, right??" I'd forgotten how many times I've forced him to watch this with me.
Colonel Tigh is going to go insane, constantly wondering if he's betrayed everyone. I won't be surprised if he commits suicide. The only thing he had left to live for was his duty, and now he can never be sure that he won't betray it.
They can't kill Anders, can they?? Or are they just fucking with him? Shit, is he getting instructions? Oh man, this was all for Anders, what the hell is he going to do?
And don't you think Roslin will figure out that something's up with these fools? She's militantly observant, especially when it comes to this Cylon crap.

Preview Run: OH MY GOD, WHOSE THROAT WILL GET CUT?!

9:13pm: Oh my God, does Baltar have a harem? This show is like manga.
Of course, the entire cult is all female. Oh, wait! A token boy! LOL light-up star with his picture in the middle. Awwww.....I love his creeped out look, and then, "Rrrright."

9:15pm: Wow, little hypocritical there, Chief? AND BOOMER? How the hell can Cylons be afraid of her?
Thank God for Lee hugging her, at least. GO LEE! OMF, and Anders too, she doesn't hug him for very long, does she?
Didn't expect the time-shift issue.

9:17pm: oh God, these girls are annoying. Fawning over him for no reason, mothering him, not understanding any logical sense. Wow, is he really going to convert her with a sexual encounter?
"Can you feel God's presence?"
"You know what, I think I do." What a skeazy bastard!!

9:21pm: Kara is so frustrated, but I can totally understand Roslin not believing a damn word. Watching Tigh and Tory watch the ship be analyzed is also interesting.
"There could be a Cylon right here." GOOD THING THERE'S THREE OF THEM!

I like that Lee refuses to believe that Kara could possibly be a Cylon. Lee! Be my favorite character again! Keep wearing sweaters!

9:27pm: Okay, this harem thing is just gross. Everyone crowds around the two naked people in bed to put a child in with them....and make Gaius heal him?? Okay wait, how do they know about the one true God?

9:29pm: I wonder how many pow-wows these four will have. I like how jittery Anders is.
Wow, they will shoot themselves? Is that what the gun meant?? That would be so hardcore.

9:31pm: Yay, Gaeta versus Starbucks! He is a cocky jackass. Wow, Dee is still alive. Oh, Helo, always loving the underdog.

9:34pm: I like that Adama is honest with her, doesn't hold anything back. "How do you explain that, Kara?" Their relationship is still definitely father/daughter, and it hurts to watch him not trust her.

9:42pm: Would it matter if he was a Cylon? If he always had been? Would that chance how we'd always feel about him?
The answer is no. A lot of people on the show are arriving at this point at the same time. Obviously, Tigh, Anders, and the Chief are having difficult accepting this.

9:43pm: How funny would it be if they landed on Earth in 30AD, and Gaius was Jesus? He certainly looks like him. I wish a sci-fi series could be that irreverent. That would be so hilarious!

Well, okay, they shaved his beard off, so no.

9:50pm: Holy shit, this is hardcore. Someone cutting his throat open, and Six: "Did you mean it?" Holy shit, that woman with him is hardcore!
How do these people get this room, anyway? They just take over a room on the Galactica and cover it with pillows and lamps?
Is it just me, or does anybody else think the little boy is a creepy-looking fucker?

How much is it going to freak Kara out when she finds out that Sam consoling her was Sam the Cylon?
Being a Cylon doesn't change who you are, etc.
OMG, Kara is so hardcore. Poor Sam! That look in his eyes was just sad.

9:55pm: Yeah, Kara, attacking the marines and Anders is really going to make everyone believe you!
Wow, a grenade? Really? I would expect something a little more direct from Kara.

9:56pm: Okay, so it was a pretty good episode. I still don't think that the Tory/Tyrol/Tigh/Anders reveal makes much sense, but I like the way they're handling it....mostly.

Overall, I miss the loss of the explanations in the beginning of the series, when the writing explored what it was like for humanity to try and find water, etc. A little more mention of day-to-day life would be interesting, I think.

I predict that Kara's "WE'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY" is going to get pretty damn annoying. And the Cylon rebellion looks interesting.

I think I like blogging about things better after the episode? Most of this seems like babbling.

My reactions:

1. Gaius is way too greasy to get that much sex. Seriously, that lady takes him to the shower room and DOESN'T GET HIM TO SHOWER? Jesus.

2. That little boy is indeed a creepy little thing.

3. Anders! :( *grabbyhands*

4. Yes, Kara. Perfect way to convince everyone you're not an alien intent on destroying the fleet. Uhuh.

I actually think that the mystery of Starbuck's missing two months - and the associated weirdness (i.e. her freakouts whenever they jump) - are kind of intriguing, and make for an interesting arc for the final season (by the way, I think this is the first time in the whole series that we've ever seen a jump from INSIDE a ship. I don't know what to make of that, but there it is.). I like it. However, I think that last season's Cylon 'reveal' is retarded, partially for reasons that you mentioned earlier (if Tigh was a Cylon, how is it that he got to reach age 97 1/2, a full career in the military, a close relationship with Adama Sr, etc.?), as well as some of my own - like, think of all the ways that Eck, Moore & Co. have established previous characters' undisputable Cylon-hood: spontaneous behavior destructive to the fleet, the sudden appearance of doubles and so forth. After three seasons of fairly routine conventions for revealing who is and isn't a Cylon, we're supposed to accept that Tigh, etc. are on the other side because of SOME FRUITY DYLAN SONG? Bullshit, I say. I think that the major consequence of the big 'reveal' will be the sort of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth we saw tonight. Now, this MAY result in paranoid behavior that ultimately (and inadvertently) harms the fleet, but chalk that up to psychological warfare on the part of the toasters, and nothing else. I still think we don't know who the final five are. So there.

Otherwise, good episode. I even liked the bit with Baltar and #6, which have historically been my least favorite bits of the whole show. "Yes...I think I DO feel the presence of God...!"

RE: The whole TTTA Cylong thing - I'm not sure if I'm sold on TTT being Cylons but I think Anders is (and I can sort of believe it? Maybe?) Of course, I am not one who watches this show regularly...
