Re: Heroes Comments

Gordon: I don't find the fact that Peter and Caitlin are physical in itself disturbing (but thanks for the Catholic comment! That was great!), but I just wish they would ever...you know....talk? I find their attraction to one another a little inexplicable.

I think you're misinterpreting what I mean by someone having their powers under control. While it sometimes takes both male and female characters a while to gain mastery over their power, the super powers given to the female characters in some cases and inherently problematic. The one that takes the cake is Maya - she gets upset, cries black tears, kills people in close proximity to her, and who has the magical power to calm her down? A man, of course!
Jessica/Niki also have no capacity to control which personality is inhabiting her body.
Claire can heal herself, but her power is also problematic because it means she can be hurt repeatedly, and somehow her new flyboy telling her to jump off a cliff to prove something to him is romantic? She can still feel pain, but the show finds a reason to hurt her in every episode she's in.

The show has definite, undeniable issues with gender. Read here (http://coffeeandink.livejournal.com/741118.html), and #4 here (http://community.livejournal.com/bobthehaitian/9346.html#cutid1), for a flavor. The show also has serious issues with race. It's not just me noticing these things - they're real!
