As much as I hope you'll love FFX or P3 on a second try, I think Chrono Trigger is the one to go with here. It's super great and not terribly long and a total classic and it has a bi character. Also all the coolest parts are only possible after you've beaten it once. ^_^

I love love love Chrono Trigger, so I'm going to second this one.

Having said that, I don't think the extra DS content is good. Stupidly overpowered weapons aren't helpful when you're already replaying with your levels and equipment. AND I hate the tie to Chrono Cross.
