Photo Blog: June 2013 Container Garden Progress

So, I've been growing some things.
OVERALL: I've had more success this year than last year. Things that I've grown from seed have actually developed into discernible plants, like they're being what they're supposed to be.

A large-ish pot green contains a bunch of mixed lettuce. A smaller pink pot contains some arugula. There's also a tiny plastic greenhouse. Green basil shoots are hidden by beaded water.

The lettuce plant is something I bought from the farmer's market. It's kind of droopy, likely because it's getting big b/c I haven't cut any off to eat any yet -_-
The arugula is something I grew from seed. It's looking arugula-ish! But it didn't go through various repottings very well :/
The basil keeps remaining tiny. I got this tiny greenhouse from Target for $1. I should probably transfer them to a small pot. But I'm not holding out much hope for these little guys.

In a tan container, some green cucumber plants are climbing three 5' wooden stakes that are tied together up above the top of this photo. The plants are vining. There are a few yellow blossoms.

The bigger cucumber plant, which already has flowers, is something I bought from the hardware store on a bike trip. These are supposed to be "burpless" or something, which I hope will help me eat them raw without pain. (Most raw vegetables = bad news.) In the meantime, it's fun to watch them climb.
Intermixed with the larger plant, mostly on the right, are thinner vines that I grew from seeds sent by [personal profile] wrdnrd - Mexican sour gherkin, which I've never eaten before :O

On a wooden bench, there are 5 spider plants. Very bushy thyme plant in a blue container. Marigold plant grows in a green container. At the top, there's a bud starting that's still green. So far, this is just leaves & no flowers.

My original spider plant was given to me by a friend who lived in the same dorm as me freshman/sophomore year & then worked with me in the Capitol.
All the other spider plants have been spawned from it! It's pretty exciting.

I bought the thyme plant at the hardware store, I think.
The marigold is something I grew from seed. I'm really proud of it, even though it hasn't flowered yet.

In a white pot, two green plants are growing (center & left; the one in the right hasn't sprouted yet bahaha). each plant has two biggish leaves right now.

This was my most successful plant last year! I was a little late getting it started this year -_-
The seed I planted on the right side hasn't sprouted, so I'll probably stick one down there in the near future. This plant will vine; I have a smallish trellis in the closet that I'll put into the pot & tie to the balcony.

So pretty! That is more plants all at once than I've ever been able to keep alive in my lifetime. Go you. Also, your ever-expanding spider plant is badass.

As someone who has no interest in gardening whatsoever, but who is currently trying to keep stuff alive, I am so impressed by all of this. You have no idea.

I am impressed! Also that last white pot is lovely, even if the third seed didn't live up to its full potential.
