i wrote a poem

I decided I was going to write tonight, even though I had no idea what to write about. So I was flipping through my Bible, and read the passage about Jesus praying in the garden before he was betrayed and killed. If you read any of the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), you'll find out where I'm getting what I'm talking about. Of course, since I wrote it, everything stands for something else. If you take it one way, it's Jesus praying. If you take it the other, it's me. It's kinda weird how everything in the poem represents something in my life...like it all just fell together. Oh well. Anyway, here is the poem.

gethsemane
I'm praying in my garden
that's been watered by my tears and blood.
My hands are clasped,
and I'm bent over this hard rock.
Pleading and begging you
please, please, take this cup from my lips.
I'm not strong enough,
I can't last long enough,
I can't live through the pain.
Maybe you don't want me to?
The ones I've trusted to protect me
have fallen asleep.
Just as well, I suppose.
They care about me, maybe,
but you and I know they don't understand.
You sent me an angel,
to comfort me and show me how to dry my tears,
but I'm still clutching this cup in my hands.
My pleading is finished and I open my eyes.
Your will over mine, Father.
Show me the way.

Lovely!

i never thought much of religious poems cuz i'm not really a religious person (i used to be a christian but now i'm eclectic - christian + buddhism + nature worship). but this is wonderfully worded.

congratulations on a job well done.

Thanks. Yeah, I was little worried that some people might just skip over it just because I said that it's related to the Bible and whatever....but I guess if people don't read it because of that then they'll just miss out.

I love your icon, it's so cute! It made me squeal, ;)
