A meme from [livejournal.com profile] tigrin: Show your favorite 5 OPs and 5 EDs (opening and ending sequences, in anime-land). I apparently like OPs a lot better than EDs, but I got 10 total.

I think that this smattering gives you a good idea of the breadth of genres that anime has. It also shows you that I mostly like ridiculous things.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, OP 1

I can't find a clip of just the original opening, so instead here's a clip of the first 1/3 of the first episode. This is the best part of the entire series anyway, in my opinion. The OP begins at 1:00. I love the song, I love the ridiculous lyrics. Watch the credits - those are heinous, too. And be ready to press the 'pause' button because there's literally a novel in this OP. The bald guy is the series producer.

Lovely Complex, OP 2

It's a shoujo anime that went on a few episodes too long. BUT it's incredibly sweet, and I love this opening, which inexplicably shows the characters as Power Rangers, pop-stars, EVERYONE FLIES, and etc. It perfectly encapsulates the ridiculous/charmingly sweet mood of the show. Plus, I love singing along to this song.

Sadamistu the Destroyer OP

OMG THIS ANIME AND THIS OP ARE SO HEINOUS.

Honey & Clover II OP

Black Lagoon OP

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu [The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya] ED

Let's be honest: This is probably the most ridiculous anime opening/ending anyone has ever seen.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei [So Long, Mr. Despair] ED 1

Scenes of violence interspersed with multi-colored traditionally-clothed girls set to 1940s jazzy swing.

xxxHolic OP

Fruits Basket OP

It's so adorable, it kills me.

Samurai Champloo ED

This is one of my favorite songs of all time, although I like the full-length version better.

NANA ED 1

LOL I remember Sadamitsu from anime club! The opening was even more hilarious with the vocals.

I am one of those unfortunate souls who learned the Haruhi dance, sadly.

OMG WERE YOU IN UW ANIME CLUB WHEN IT WATCHED SADAMITSU THE DESTROYER? BECAUSE I WAS TOO.

Alas my knowledge of openings is old. However I liek the following:

The volume on this one is a little low.

This one is an odd width. Some of the best opening music ever.

Ignore the colonialist nature of the intro, sorry to be spoilerific, but in the end, the colonizers do not get what they are looking for. :-D Well, not exactly anyhow.

What a fun idea. Man, the opening for Sadamitsu made me grin. I've never seen it, unfortunately. I should do this myself, although my list will probably be kind of generic. I'm predictable in this department. (Did Yoko Kanno write it? Then it's awesome.)

Yeah. Man that thing was heinous.

No Utena on here? I love Rinbu Revolution.
