More Story

I wrote some more story last night, and it continues from the last post. If you need a reference, click here. Again, my site is in frames, and you'll just be taken to the frame with the story on it. If you want the full effect of my site, I suggest you scroll to the very bottom of this journal and click the Mystical Fields link. I still need to add a couple scenes in the gap that exists, and one of those scenes includes Timria and Lanif witnessing a soldier executing a little girl for seemingly no reason. Anyway. The story.

Lanif's eyes narrowed; his awe of the woman seemed to have worn off.

"What's with you, anyway? What did you do to that guy?" he asked her.

"We shouldn't talk here....it's not safe. Can we go somewhere else?" She was piercing Lanif with her eyes again, pleading.

"Yeah....we can go to my place," he said.

After returning to the car and driving in uncomfortable silence, the threesome arrived at an old apartment building. After parking the car in an assigned garage, Lanif led them up four flights of stairs and into a sparsely decorated apartment.

"Aren't your parents home, Lanif?" Timria asked. Lanif hung his keys on a hook in the small kitchen.

"Haven't got parents," he said. Timria blinked in surprise. But then she supposed she had never actually asked Lanif about his life, even though he had asked her plenty of questions about hers. He probably thinks I'm a self-centered girl....

"Come on, let's sit down in there," he gestured to a space with a couch and two chairs. Lanif and Timria chose the couch, and the woman chose a chair. Timria and Lanif looked at her expectantly.

"My name is Charlotte Langton," she said. Lanif smiled.

"I didn't even realize we hadn't exchanged names. I'm Lanif Garrow. And this is--"

"--Timria Cyrim," said Timria, finishing for him. Charlotte nodded.

"All right, so what was with that guy, then? What did you do to him?"

"I healed him," said Charlotte. Timria looked skeptical.

"What do you mean, you healed him?" she asked.

"The man was injured. I healed his wounds." Lanif rolled his eyes.

"How could you possibly do that?" Charlotte gave him a dangerous, piercing look.

"I can't tell you that. I'm sorry." Unsatisfied with her polite answer, Timria and Lanif were silent. Then Lanif asked,

"Well, what did you heal him for? Aren't those soldiers the bad guys?"

"The man was hurt. I healed him." Lanif glared at Charlotte.

"Why would you heal a dick like that? Now he'll just do evil thing!"

"Will he?"

"Yes, he will! We saw one of them shoot a little girl! Now you let a guy just like him go to do the same! What's the point?" Charlotte smiled.

"The man is evil because he killed a little girl. If I let an injured man die when I could have healed him, aren't I evil in the same way?" Lanif said nothing, but after a beat of silence, Timria did.

"But if you healed him and he goes to kill people, then aren't you responsible for it? Aren't you evil anyway?"

"He won't kill anyone."

"The hell he won't!" cried Lanif. "I don't know what the deal is with those guys, but they're all bloodthirsty....we saw it.

"I didn't heal him - the enemy - without a price. Didn't you see him drop his gun?"
