Lose/Lose....Win
I'm not sure if I like this or not. I'll have to reread it tomorrow, maybe rewrite parts of it. Comment with anything you're thinking.
Edit: This is a revised version since last night....it's 8:18 in the morning, :P
Sitting alone at the party,
staring into the flames of the bonfire.
There are couples sitting
and everyone else is standing and talking.
They know everyone's pasts,
and details of their present.
Pride themselves on knowing who works where
and who's on vacation. And who's dating whom.
Do they know who's wanted to die in the last week?
Who wants to cry because they feel so alone?
Do they really know what anybody is feeling?
And if they did, would they care?
You're surrounded by people who
don't give a rip about you.
And if you say something that has depth,
you're weird.
If you seclude yourself in their midst,
then nobody likes you anyway.
Decide to not bother and don't show up to begin with?
Nice try, now everyone hates you.
Half of them only talk to you
so they know information about your friends.
And most of your friends only talk to you
so that they can talk about your other friends.
And if you disagree or try not to say anything,
then, well, you're a bitch.
If you haven't noticed,
in all of these situations,
no matter what you do,
you lose.
Everything you do offends somebody.
All you need to do is realize that
they don't care about you.
And if you lose no matter what you do,
then you might as well do what's right.
Then you win.
