Angel, Season 3

Let's see. I think I would have felt a lot more shock about the Holtz double-take at the end (oh, I am forgiving everything and giving Connor to Angel....OH WAIT, I'm using Connor as a tool to get my final revenge!) if I hadn't been almost puking because I thought that him giving up would have been so lame. I was ready to write an entire blog entry about how lame Holtz was, but then he has to go and do something badass.

Or, rather, Justine does. Justine is the shit. She fights well, and she slits throats. If I was her, I would go by "Justine the Throat-Cutter." It would be so awesome. People would fear me.

CAN I TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE EVIL/EMO WESLEY? SO MUCH. FAVORITE CHARACTER. EVAR. I loved his storyline this season! I am a sucker for loving characters going through unrequited love. I like that Wesley doesn't get the girl, even though they're perfect for each other. He's alienated from everyone. I love how the prophecy eats at him, how he is literally almost going crazy from it, until he decides what he needs to do. I love that Wesley is brilliant. I love that as soon as he's humming, holding baby Connor, and Lorne just stares at him in realization, it takes Wesley literally seconds to figure out what just happens and that he needs to take Lorne down - immediately, and he does. Once his mind is set on what is best, he'll do anything to see it through. And he does! I love Lorne, but OMG, Wesley. And what does Wesley get, for all of his amazingness? A SLIT THROAT AND FRIENDS WHO LEAVE HIM IN THE COLD. Fred tries to be all high-and-mighty because Wesley "couldn't trust her?" Bullshit. It's obvious that he loves her - if Gunn sees it, I don't see why Fred couldn't. And it makes sense that Wesley would want to stay away from her and Gunn, that he couldn't think clearly around them. In Wesley's position, I would have done the same thing, down to beating the shit out of Lorne.
And in the end of the season? He has sex with Lilah, and still tells her he doesn't trust her, etc. HE IS SO HARDCORE. I WOULD HAVE WESLEY'S BABIES. (Don't tell Antoine I said that.)

Okay. There are other characters than Wesley, right? Yes.

I think I've put my finger on a big reason why I don't like watching Angel as much as I do Buffy. I don't think Charisma Carpenter is a very good actress. I think they should have left more of the "bitch" in Cordelia, because she was a hell of a lot more fun to watch when she was unpredictable. But now, I can predict pretty much everything Cordelia does: say sappy things, and follow Angel around like a puppy. Also? CANNOT STAND HER SHORT HAIR, NO MATTER WHAT THEY DID WITH IT. YUCK. I hope she fired her stylist. Her hair looked much, much better long, IMO.

And by the end of the season, when she's getting sucked into Heaven with twinkling lights? Didn't even care. I thought the Groosalugg was a stupid character overall, and I can't understand why Cordelia didn't know she was in love with Angel all along. Why would Cordelia Chase ever fall in love with that thug? I don't know, show, and you didn't really tell me!!

And Angel. Ends the season descending while Cordelia ascends (oh yes, the heavy-handed Shakespearean "OMG their love cannot be!" was not lost on me!). Didn't affect me a whole lot because he's, you know, the titular character and there are two more seasons. I liked Angel overall this season.

And I like Connor a lot. I hope they don't make him do stupid things, or reduce him to "whiny emo kid" and then give him a horribly sappy death.

Am still bitter that Kate just left with no explanation at all, not even a throw-away line.

In conclusion.....Bad-Ass Wesley! Justine! And Lorne sure as hell better not stay in Las Vegas, because I love him too much!

So anyway, done with season 3. Am waiting to sort out a weird Netflix mistake that I made (I had Buffy 7.1 sent to my parents' house instead of here; will have to wait for Netflix to send me disc 2 because I can't have the same disc in my queue twice at the same time, and hope that the library gives me disc 1 soon! Am also using the library for Angel!). While I wait to come into possession of discs, though, it's nice to take a bit of a break. It's like, OMG, what do I watch while I eat my dinner? (Tonight, I started Tokyo Babylon) Life will be really weird when I finally finish watching Buffy and Angel. When I watched a Buffy season 6 featurette of the series as a whole, though, I really wanted to immediately go back and re-watch seasons 1 and 2.

[livejournal.com profile] were_duck, are you going to be at Room tomorrow around 11:15, or Friday around 1:00-1:20? Because I could return season 3 to you then!
