Buffy help!

Hey! A special LJ-only post, because I don't think the people who read just my blog can help me.

Anyway, my friend Gretchen has told me that there are seasons of Buffy on DVD at sale at Best Buy for $15. $15 is hella cheap, and I'd like to buy at least one season.

That said, I need help in deciding which seasons to buy, as I have only seen 3 season (am working on making my way through all of them!). To help you give suggestions, I'll say what I've liked so far!

Not going to buy season 1 (unless it's like, $5, lol).

Season 2, I loved the whole Buffy having to kill Angel thing. I liked Angel turning evil - I love Ms. Calendar's death scene.

In Season 3, I loved the fucked-upness of everyone. Seeing Angel's past, Buffy stabbing faith, relationships in hell, the season finale with everyone in the high school banding together to defeat the demon.

BUT, I'm assuming that the show gets even better. Friends have said that in season 4, "Hush" is amazing, and a silent episode - this sounds really cool to me. Also, season 6 has the musical episode, which would also be awesome.

I love Oz, I like Angel (although I think I'll like him a lot more on his own show, because here he mostly broods).

I'm just not sure what to get! Any suggestions would be cool!

If you have a Costco near you & someone w/a membership, they're also having Buffy & Angel on sale for $15 or so. We completed our Angel collection that way recently. :)

I haven't seen all the episodes, and my knowledge of some seasons is a little patchy, but I really really like season 5. It's one of my favorites. The last few episodes are amazing.

I own the first three seasons, and I think the popular consus is that 2, 3, and 5 are the best (although really, despite being a hardcore fan, I was never much into BtVS fandom, so I'm not sure how accurate my impressions are). Personally, my absolute favourite is season two; I still think it's one of the most perfect seasons of any TV show. As for the seasons you haven't watched... Well, I don't know, as much as I loved Buffy and still thought it was great, I never felt quite the same about it after Angel left and they finished high school. It's still fantastic, but just... different. Overall, the fourth season isn't nearly as consistent as the second or third. A lot of it is pretty hit or miss, but there are some outstanding episodes: Hush, as you mentioned, and also Restless. Like I mentioned, the fifth season is usually regarded as one of the best, but it isn't one of my favourites. It's great drama, but a lot of it is really hard to watch, and I think it lacks a lot of the fun that the earlier seasons had. While slaying is obviously not a walk in the park, I think it's important to balance the dark drama with the fun and friendship. Also, yeah, rather unpopular character introduction at the beginning of that season that I only just now thought of because I have been repressing it for so long, haha. Moving on to season six -- I think enjoyment of this season is based purely on shipping preferences. So, yeah, I really didn't care for it much. There are actually a lot of great episodes at the beginning of the season, though (Life Serial is one of my favourites), so it's too bad that the rest of it didn't quite follow through. Then the seventh is more or less back to normal Buffy, although with extra speechifying and epic-ness as it is the last season and all.

So, as for which ones to buy? If you're going to get just one season, I would definitely say go for season two. If you decide to get more than that, well, I hope my comment has been somewhat helpful in helping you choose. Man! Only $15?? I think I might even stop by myself, haha, and maybe pick up season four.

Thanks, guys! Best Buy was out of season 2, and I ended up going with season 3, since I know for sure that I like it, and Bethany's prognosis of future seasons sounded like this might be one of the better ones to own. This proves once again that LiveJournal knows all.

Oh good, I was going to recommend three.

Note that some people say that there are no seasons past 5, but that's a different post...
