1. Favourite Book? I don't know how to answer this question, but I can provide the list I have on Facebook, :D
The Blind Assassin, White Teeth, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, China Mountain Zhang, Snow Crash, Princess Academy, The Stand, Lincoln's Melancholy, The Bell Jar, Fight Club, Invisible Monsters, Lullaby, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Gone With the Wind, To Kill A Mockingbird, Les Miserables, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, Fahrenheit 451, The Golden Compass, Caddie Woodlawn, The Scarlet Letter, Neverwhere

2. Favourite Author? Chuck Palahniuk, Nathaniel Hawthorne, the Bronte sisters, Jane Austen, Neil Gaiman, and I guess all the people who wrote my favorite books

3. Favourite Genre? Science fiction or general fiction. I tend to loathe fantasy.

4. Favourite series of books? Little House on the Prairie, Animorphs, Tales of the Otori, Harry Potter, The Dark Tower, Lord of the Rings, Redwall (in order of publication before The Outcast of Redwall)

5. Favourite Illustrator? Garth Williams? And the lady who illustrated Harry Potter.

6. Favourite book from when you were little? *cough* those are still current favorites....Little House on the Prairie, Gone With the Wind, Redwall, Lucasfilm's Alien Chronicles

7. Favourite Hero? Most of my heroes come from real life, TV shows, or anime. But I guess Laura Ingalls Wilder has been my favorite hero since an impressionable age.

8. Favourite Villain? None, I hated villains, and I hated when the storyline went to them in novels.

9. Favourite couple? Rhett/Scarlett. I tend to not care for romances in books. TV, movies, and anime, it's okay. Books = meh.

10. Favourite Character? The protagonists from all my favorite books?

5 Lasts

1. Last book you bought? Huh. Latest actual purchase was The Prophecy by K.A. Applegate for $1. It's an Animorphs book.

2. Last book you were given? I just got the second volume of Celestial Legend Ceres through BookMooch.

3. Last book you pre-ordered? I don't pre-order books. I usually don't even buy books new, unless they're manga.

4. Last book you loved? Octavia Butler's Dawn was okay (didn't like Adulthood Rites; about to start the third one). I can't remember everything I've read recently, so I'll go with The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood

5. Last book you hated? Yeah, I really didn't care for Butler's Adulthood Rites. I'll probably blog about the trilogy before Book Club meets.

3 dos

1.Do you read part of your current book every day? Yes. I usually have multiple current books.

2. Do you stick to one genre of books or do you jump around? No, I try to jump around. I guess my main-stays are general fiction and science fiction, though.

3. Do you review all the books you read on LJ? No, but I try to keep my booklog updated (it is woefully NOT at the moment, so I won't link to it!)

1 If
1. If you were stuck on a desert island and could only take one book with you, which book would you choose?
The Bible.

Firstly: Has anyone heard much about the new TV show called The Fringe? I just heard about it here, and it sounds pretty awesome. A sci-fi TV show, created by JJ Abrams, with Joshua Jackson in it? I'm in. WTF, I watch TV again now! I'm excited for this, Dollhouse, the return of The Office, and would like to catch up on Grey's and Battlestar Galactica (I think I now only have about 3 episodes left).

Speaking of TV....Last night I watched through episode 8 of the new season of Code Geass. Generally speaking, I like the first season a lot more, and find this one much less interesting so far. But I still love the gorgeous character designs enough to keep watching. I'd like to see how much rewatch value the first season has, because I loved it at the time.

Lastly, another meme! But this one is participatory!

Pick a fandom, and I'll tell you which character(s) I would
1. bake cupcakes for:
2. trust with the keys to my car (if I had a car):
3. put thumbtacks on their chair:
4. have a crush on:
5. pack up and leave if they moved next door:
6. vote for President:
7. pick as my partner in a buddy movie:
8. pair up:
9. vote off the island and into the volcano:
10. wheedle into fixing my MP3 player:

My favorite TV shows, anime shows, manga series, and video games can be found in my profile; books and stuff are on Facebook (or well-known?!). Someone ask me about Final Fantasy VII! DO IT.

Anime meme from [livejournal.com profile] tigrin

1. Pick 10 of your favorite anime.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each anime.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions to answer!

1. There are no such things as miracles. (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

2. Survival of the fittest is the law of nature. We deceive or we are deceived. Thus, we flourish or perish. Nothing good ever happened to me when I trusted others. That is the lesson. (Cowboy Bebop)

3. The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, A's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! You can't imagine what happened! Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! If we only had the bottle of mildew remover from the bathroom, we could destroy them!! (Azumanga Daioh)

4. Those who accept their fate find happiness; those who defy it, glory. (This is actually the series' tagline, I'm not sure if it's said in the series itself.) (Princess Tutu)

5. A: Hey, what's in the other refrigerator?
B: Oh, don't bother him! He's probably still sleeping!
(Neon Genesis Evangelion)

6. When I was certain he was going to kill me, my mind went blank, and I didn't have any hope anymore. All I could do was scream my lungs out. I felt so helpless, I couldn't even bring myself to believe someone might save me. And then you showed up, Al, and I realized that if we don't take care of each other then no one else will. (Fullmetal Alchemist)

7. I meditate diligently every morning. The subject is Life and Love. I quit after three seconds. (Trigun)

8. A: He doesn't understand the meaning of "restraint."
B: Kiss my ass.
(Samurai Champloo)

9. What a terrible story. But appropriate for our world. Sometimes I feel like I'm walking over a giant pile of shit.

10. You might also add fear of horror movies, fear of ghost storytelling, fear of suddenly getting scared from behind, and fear of TV commercials about horror movies. What is it with those, anyway? I really do not like them airing those segments without any warnings. What's become of the rights of the cowards?

EDIT: Some people are answering these on the similar entry in my blog.

I've spent the last couple of days watching the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica and now I'm having withdrawal. Do any of you guys watch it?? I go back to school on Sunday. Trying to mentally prepare myself for that. In the mean time, a book meme!

Bookmeme:
Bold those you’ve read. Italicize those you haven’t finished. Underline those you own.
Add at least 2 books to the list at the bottom you read, finished, and own.
1. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
2. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
3. His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman (I've read the first two; own all three)
4. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling
6. To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
7. Winnie the Pooh, AA Milne
8. 1984, George Orwell
9. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, CS Lewis (my brother owns it)
10. Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte
11. Catch-22, Joseph Heller

I'm trying to keep sane during this time of the semester when shit hits the fan. OMGOMGOMG I just want it to be Winter Break! I especially want to work on my Ghost Hunters story....I really want to write the next couple of scenes. But anyway....

Here's this anime meme that I picked up from [livejournal.com profile] colin_chaotic. I found that a lot of the anime I've seen wasn't in the list, so I just added my own section at the end, XD

This meme taken from Claudia and Kell.

1. What was your first car?
It's STILL my car. '98 green Chevy Lumina. Referred to by one of my friends as "The Luminator." It's at home, though, as cars are basically useless for students in Madison (no parking, everything is within walking distance/excellent bus system that happens to be free for students).

2. What was the name of your first pet and why?
Snoopy. My brother named him when he got him for his First Communion - He was named after Snoopy, from Peanuts. His middle name was Linus.

3. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A ninja turtle and a writer.

4. What was the name of your elementary school?
Pioneer

5. Who was your first best friend?
My first one? Probably Maggie.

6. Are you still friends today, and if not, what happened?
It's one of those relationships where we'll always be friends, despite not talking too much any more. Her house is still across the street from mine. We just kind of grew apart after elementary school.

7. What was your favorite board game?
Currently, "Diplomacy." It's like Risk, only the actual world, just prior to WWI.

8. Did you play house or other make believe games?
Yes. Chad and I had elaborate cities in our backyards, run on currencies of pine cones.

9. Were you a Dungeons and Dragons geek?
No. I never heard about it until some time in high school. Apparently my brother was, though. He has a bunch of die and books (remember my brother is 12 years older than me).

10. Did you sleep with stuffed animals as a kid?
Yes. I may or may not have 3 puppies, a Sailor Moon plushie, and a Tuxedo Mask plushie here with me at school. And a Hello Kitty pillow.

11. Do you still sleep with stuffed animals?
See above.

12. Who was the first person you looked up to when you were younger?
Laura Ingalls Wilder

13. Who was your favorite relative?
Awww, I can't pick stuff like that. They're all pretty awesome.

14. Were you short or tall in elementary school?
In elementary school? Medium, I guess. Definitely short now. I never realize it until I'm forced to line up according to height and then I think to myself, "Shits, I am short!"

15. Were you teased in school?
I'm not really sure how to address this. I can't remember people ever teasing me to my face, but that's because I never took any shit from anybody. So if somebody was like, "Oh, you're such a geek!" or "Jackie, why do you READ during recess?!" I was usually pretty quick and sharp with my retorts.

16. What was the name of your favorite teacher?
Mr. Heck (most of my math), Reina (most of my Spanish), Bunk (20th century history and AP history), Fischer (Physics, even though I detested that class)

17. What was the name of your least favorite teacher?
I never really cared for most of my teachers, nor the way children are treated in schools in general. There were very, very few that I disliked as people (limited to middle school and elementary school teachers) - when I say I didn't care for most, I mean as educators and not as people.

18. What was your best subject in school?
English.

19. What was your worst subject in school?
Math, I guess, although I was pretty good at that, too.

20. Did you do well in Physical Education?
I was always either the last or second-to-last kid running the mile. I'm not obese or anything, either. Just not athletic at all.
Except when we played Lacrosse. When we played lacrosse, I kicked ass and took names. Look out when you put a stick in my hand, yo. I become a lethal weapon.

21. Were you clumsy when you were younger?
Not really, although I have the tendency to trip on the sidewalk when walking around campus these days.

22. Who was your favorite band as a kid?
I didn't listen to music very much as a kid....The first band I can remember discovering on my own and listening to forever was Matchbox 20.

23. What was your favorite movie as a kid?
The Lion King, Milo & Otis, An American Tale, Star Wars.

24. Did your parents read to you?
Yes, until I discovered that I could read by myself. Mom was then exiled from the room, and...well, I haven't really stopped ever since then.

25. Did you have a favorite book?
I loved Dr. Suess as a small child, and in about first grade, loved the Little House on the Prairie books.

26. What was your favorite restaurant as a kid?
The T&T (bar/supper club), Up North.

27. What TV or movie star did you have a crush on?
I don't think that I ever really did.

28. Do you now wonder what you were thinking?
N/A

29. Who was your first crush in school?
His name was Kyle. My friend Heather liked him too. It was amusing.

30. As a child, what kind of car did you want when you grew up?
I never really gave a shit. I still don't.

31. Did your parents spank you?
Only when I accidentally got the police sent out looking for me, and apparently when I scribbled on the wall. I don't remember doing that.

32. Did your parents fight a lot when you were a kid?
Not really.

33. Did your parents get divorced or stay married?
Still married.

34. If they got divorced, how old were you when it happened?
--

35. Did you ever run away from home?
No.

36. How old were you when/if you first got glasses?
No glasses yet!

37. Did you need braces or a retainer?
Both. I'm still supposed to wear the retainers. I used to have headgear that I had to wear at night, haha.

38. If you're male, how old were you when you had your first wet dream?
N/A, too bad.

39. Both sexes when did you start shaving?
Despite my mother telling me to wait, I'm fairly certain that I started in 5th or 6th grade, so what, 10 or 11?

40. Girls when did you start wearing a bra?
I was young because I'm...how do you say, "endowed?" 'Tis a curse, let me tell you. I honestly don't remember, although it was probably before middle school? I developed early, ;_;

41. What was your first kiss like?
The first one was painfully awkward because it came out of nowhere and I wasn't expecting it at all...but he was my boyfriend so it was okay. The next one was better, :) Unfortunately, he's the only person I've ever kissed, which means that it's been a long time since I've kissed anyone!

42. What did you do on your first date?
My relationship with my boyfriend was extremely natural, so I never really thought of anything as a "date." Maybe Prom was? I don't know.

43. How old were you when you first drank?
I've never drank, :O

44. Where was your first house?
It's still the same house...I live in a dorm right now, so that definitely doesn't count. My parents' house is in Green Bay! In a suburb of it, actually (yes, Green Bay has suburbs).
